Just had my dog put to sleep...

I had my westie put down just over a year ago.
He was our first ever dog .
He'd had a very happy, long but sadly sickly life.

Couple of bits of advice with regards to dog owners dreading going through the same

Watch 'Marley and me' ; fantastic therapy, you will cry.
Get another dog preferably before you lose the other.
I was holding my dog when we called time on his life.would not hesitate to do the same again.Euthanasia all the way.Very peaceful.

The original poster should tell him mum and dad they chose a great name for your best companion.
RIP Chester the westie.

To everyone who is grieving for their dog. my personal opinion is that you need to adopt another and trust that there is enough humanity on earth to love them and give them a good home.

p.s. the dogs adopt people.

Sorry to hear your bad news LoveCity.

I've never "owned" a dog personally, but looked after a few in my time (Weimarner, King Charles Cavalier, Rhodesian Ridgeback and Lurcher) during childhood and in later life.

Even now, years after they passed away, I speak with the owners and people who knew them, in very affectionate terms.

A great feeling when you're out and about and give a dog a stroke and witnessing its unbridled joy.

too true mate

quite true, when i lost alf 5 weeks ago i didnt think i'd find another dog so chilled and affectionate.

but i went to tameside animal shelter to visit a male staffie called bruno, who turned out to be too boistrous.

as we were walking out i noticed a brown staffie, as i neared the cage, she just walked over, sat down and put her head against my hand on the cage door.

that was it for me, she had chosen me

Awww, thoughts are with you.

I had to put my goldie to sleep a couple of years ago. Roughly same sort of age. It really is heart breaking. They're such good companions.
