Just had my dog put to sleep...

Sorry to hear about your dog, this has to be one of the worst things in life. Ive had to have 3 of my dogs put to sleep in the last 6 years. They were all a big age (15,16 and 18) and I was present every time, one of the most painful things Ive experienced. Ive one left and she's 17 soon and after that we'll have a big break from dogs. Me and my partner volunteer at our local RSPCA and it feels really good to help dogs who are victims of cruelty there too.

No-one should ever feel ashamed for crying over their dog dying, dogs are one of the best things in life.

Sorry to hear that pal. I know how you (and the other that have commented) feel. Went to have our Lab put down a few months back at 10years old.

She had been bad for a while with organ failures and legs giving up. On the last visit to the vet she let out a heavy sigh as she arrived and that was her last breath, almost as though she knew the injection was waiting and decided to go her own way.

Still get very emotional now when I think about it. It truly is like losing a member of your family, when they have been with you for so long and provided so much love it is hard not to feel that way.

What a great stance!
Beautiful majestic dog.

Lost my 'little girl' and all round best mate and confidante last March!
Went 4 weeks and found another 1 year old, not treated too nice by a breeder.
She's a nutter, makes me laugh everyday. Amazingly she's adopted the exact characteristics of my other dog.

Getting rid of his toys, dog food, bed, etc., makes it even worse. Since I was quite young when we got him, he's not 'my' pet but a family pet so my parents are upset too. Just saw his collar on the table and had to make myself scarce to avoid bursting into tears. :(

alfies stuff is still on the bedroom floor mate where i eventually moved it from the kitchen about 3 weeks ago. its so final moving it out of eyeshot.

i pick up his collar every so often, but it is still painful.

the pain does subside a little with time pal....in time, i'm sure you'll be able to look back with fondness rather than hurt

Lucy lived until she was 17 and all of us remember her life.

Dad was heartbroken but the answer is for another adopt to you ...

-- Tue Mar 27, 2012 5:47 pm --

It's as bad as losing a family member... he was 13 and called Chester, I took this just before the vets arrived. I couldn't watch and let my parents deal with it. Dogs are the most amazing thing in the world.

I did the same in November the other year. I don't think I've been as upset as that ever in my life. Truly horrible thing. Dogs really are a man's best friend!

Really sorry to hear mate. The most loyal animals on earth. I grew up with an Irish Setter/Golden Retriever mix named Rusty that lived til 14. Wound up getting Lyme's disease and having to be put down. Only time I've seen my father cry outside of his dad's funeral.

When I was four I got lost in our families forest for six hours and Rusty never once left my side while I was crying out. Will never forget that dog.

Really sorry to hear that mate.

Cracking pets, who soon become genuine family members, I was devastated when I had to have my old dog put to sleep, and would feel just the same if/when anything happened to this one.
