What’s going on? I can’t believe everyone is celebrating this like we are fantastic again.
We played a second string Juve side who clearly weren’t up for it.

They still scored 2. Our defence is a shambles.

I hope we are, the energy was noticeable and some of the forward players seem to be on it.

As a team though it’s so easy to counter on us. It’s just not being addressed.
I think people are excited by the performance and why not, lots of movement and option up front. I found it exciting and I’m certainly looking forward to next season, it’s the 3rd match of the new squad and it was refreshing.
I also liked the delight from Pep & the new coaches faces when we scored.

So in your view we don’t have a defensive issue? Fair enough.

We all see football differently but I’m not sure what you’ve been watching for 18 months with our defence if that’s your view.
Well that’s a strange interpretation. Of course we had a defensive problem for lots of reasons. Where we differ a lot is that I think they have been addressed and, as a result, we are much much better.

"I liked the way we did it," Guardiola told Dazn. "It has been a long, long time since we had a performance like this on and off the ball. The players were committed and we are happy to beat a top side.

So what's the point of having backroom staff if they don't have any influence, should just have Pep and save some money
I dont think you've fully understood what I wrote there, in particular this line;
"We change backroom staff fairly regularly and have done for as long as Pep's been with us, I think it's better for Pep that way as he likes having new people around to bounce ideas off."

I’m really pleased for Nunes, he seems to have settled in nicely after a dodgy start and looking the business now. My only moan is that Erling first touch is shocking for a player of his level . Phil looks rejuvenated and Rodri back gives the team its mojo back
300 goals in 370 games - that shocking first touch has really held him back.

MODS!!

I was very sceptical about this tournament being now, but actually I now think it may turn out to be a huge benefit.
I was skeptical too as I wanted our squad to have a proper summer break.

Whether we win this competition or not the huge benefit I think is our squad is starting to gel this summer before the season starts which can only be a good thing. The future is looking very bright and I've really enjoyed watching our CWC games.

If I u
Pep's tactics were never the problem.
The lack of pace, press and movement was.
Early days but this looks so so promising.
We look like we've goals all over the pitch again.
Just wait till this team really clicks into gear.
If I use a PZ2 on a PH2 screw, my tactics are wrong. I’ve still got a screwdriver but with the wrong parts for the job. He didnt have the tools for the way he wanted to execute the job. He couldn’t adapt. So he bought new tools. Simple.

We're celebrating because we're happy at what we're seeing pal.

We have won all 3 games so I'm not going to be critical on a few mistakes. We have made 7 signings since January and we must allow for mistakes as it's part of our transition from where we were last season(before January in particular) to where we are now.

As for teams countering on us they have but bear in mind we've played different players in each game. Once we start to settle we'll see less mistakes defensively.

Early days of course but that was exciting stuff. Lot more direct and players willing to shoot and cross early. Both full backs look to have pace to burn which changes the dynamic somewhat.

Really Impressive performance from us. The goals conceded were typical of us, or pre season, not sure which, but the firepower and the level of performance was both surprising for this time in the season, and very pleasing.

Not a single player looked out of place. Reijnders is so, so good. A Gundo replacement and adds more. Ait Nouri the same, I'm scratching my head how he's been at a struggling wolves team these past two years.

Cherki needs something, familiarity or just that spark of a few assists, but it's very clear he has something only a few players in the world can ever hope to possess.

Only downside is another 2am kick off, and of course I have a 9am unavoidable training session a good cars journey away.

I'm interested in your view that this was a second string Juventus and that hey clearly "weren't up for it". We played Juve last December in the CL and lost 2-0. Of the team that beat us then 9 of the 11 appeared last night. Six of them started and and 3 were subbed, being replaced by 3 others who played last December. In total both teams used 5 subs and this was because of the extreme heat and humidity in the case of Juventus (as well as City) rather than to any lack of desire. Juventus will not have enjoyed any part of last night's drubbibg.

Your judgement that our defence is a shambles seems harsh and hasty as well. Our 'keeper has been an integral part of our attempts to build attacks when he gets the ball from Pep's first day at the club and it has worked and is working sensationally well but we do make (very few) mistakes, and Eddie made one last night. We can't find any other goalkeeper or defender who hasn't made a mistake in distribution. The second Juve goal was a good goal which exploited our high line. This can and does happen but it is entirely different to periods last season when even some mediocre teams seemed to able to run through midfield and our defence at will - Juventus managed 4 shots all night in the club world cup, not the Europa league.

Everyone knows that the conditions are unlikely to be replicated in our league season, that fatigue may have been more of a factor last night than it will be during our season and that City are a new side building connections and team play BUT If City can play consistently at last night's level we won't be far off the PL title if we don't win it. Last night's was a very impressive performance, not a defensive shambles, against a good Juve team.

Why not celebrate that performance? We’ve not seen one like it for a while, and it also looks like our new signings have been here forever, especially RaN. There was a lot to be happy about and get giddy about for the season coming.
