Not for me. No signings until CAS decision I reckon.
Apart from 2 years ago he was one of the most promising cbs in the world. Power, pace, composure, passing short and long, leadership, aerial power, intelligence. A couple of injuries set him back, a run of games free from injury and I reckon you are looking at a £50m cb. Plus hes still young and cheap. Look at bailey as well, super potential 2 years ago but struggling now. Maybe the clubs training is poor, maybe overplayed who knows but both were class prospects but stalled through injury.
I can see your comparison in his power, leadership and aerial ability, but his technical side and potential far exceed wes Morgan.
Maybe it's meant to say that Kalidou is not this surefire, impossible to fail, world class for 3+ more years, must have defender?
Especially when he is 29? Played about 50% of available games because of injury and poor fitness.
Especially when the majority of our signings need 1 year to adapt to Pep's way of playing?
After all Kalidou has never played in the premier League, so why do you think he will hit the ground running like Laporte did?
When Laporte was 23 & at the top of his game when he joined?
Kalidou would be 29 and battled fitness issues all season long.
So just to get this straight. Koulibaly who had 1 injury in the past 3 seasons has battled fitness, but Laporte, who missed 6 months with a massive ankle dislocation and leg break the season before joining us was at the top of his game?
I know you've posted 100 times in this thread and have gone demented at the idea of signing Koulibaly but this one is particularly odd on account of it not making any sense at all.
As to your other point, you said this 3 days ago, and I really clearly explained how Koulibaly's time under Mauricio Sarri was the closest education to playing Pep's football that you could get, and Laporte playing under Bielsa at Athletic was probably the reason he adapted so well.
Koulibaly might have that Pep education. But how are you so sure he will make the seemless transition to another League like Laporte did? Especially when:
One was 23 and joined us on January 31st after starting in 19 of 21 La Liga games.
Meanwhile the other is 29 years old and only Played 90 minutes of Football since Dec 14th 2019, when he got injured in the 5th minute after bieng embarrassed:
You seem to be under the mistaken impression that someone who has come from France to Belgium and then to Italy already, and played in 3 leagues and 50 odd international games would have a harder time moving to England than a kid who's spent his entire life within 50 miles of the bay of biscay and only played in 1 league.
Age and more experiences don't tend to make people struggle more when moving clubs.
But does that guarantee that he will hit the ground running in the premier League?
I am not saying age and experience makes people struggle more when moving clubs.
But IF they do not hit the ground running and the first season is spent trying to adapt... Then that's when they start having no rooms for errors.
No player is guaranteed to hit the ground running, this entire line of thinking is completely meaningless.
And you think we are wise to go spend big on a 29 year old that has been injured since Dec 14th? And never played in England?
