Kalidou Koulibaly

This dude ain’t gonna magically make us water tight, we will still lose possession and teams will still break and go one on one with EDERSON who will try to save it with his feet. We will still be caught napping , we need a decent shield in front of kk and laporte

Are you joking mate?

Koulibaly belongs to the very best central defenders in the world. Stones is not even the best CB in Manchester.

You hopefully saw when Laporte was brought in a couple of years ago that our defence improved remarkably. Hell even 19 yo Garcia was an upgrade to Stones, why else would Pep play him? I can take it even further: our backline looks even more solid with a 35 yo CDM (Fernandinho). That’s how far down Stones has end up in the pecking order.

Koulibaly will now partner Laporte who is clearly our best defender. If Koulibaly and Laporte stays fit, we’d have the best centreback partnership this club has seen in many many years.
So you’re saying Koulibaly is better than Kompany?

If Koulibaly had performed as well for us this season has he had for Napoli people here would be screaming donkey and get rid asap.

Have you watched Napolis every game this season? How do you even know his season has been sh!t?

So you’re saying Koulibaly is better than Kompany?

No I mean longterm partnership. Kompany and Laporte didn’t play very long together. But yeah one could assume a class defender like Koulibaly in his prime could outshine a 33 year old Kompany struggling with injuries in some departments.

I said I'm far from convinced he is a huge upgrade on Stones, and that I do stand by.
Over how many full games watching KK are you basing that?

I ask as I think Stones has been poor for quite a long time

I don't think anyone is proclaiming he will make us watertight, that would be folly.
However, if he significantly improves us from our current form, then that is a huge step fwd.

Really sceptical about this deal, seems to be a lot of money for a guy who will be over the hill in a 2 years or so.

A cb over the hill at 31? Are you taking the piss

Thiago Silva - 35 - just got into champs league final

Marcelo 33 and Marcal 31 - just beat us and Juventus

How much did we rely on Kompany at the back end of last season? still absolute quality despite 2nd half of his career being ravaged by injuries...Koulibaly's hasn't been... Could easily still be top level at 34/35

I know he played badly vs Lyon but there's no need to shout.

Not many tbf. Watched his first two games of this season vs Fiorentina and Juventus where he had two very poor performances and I watched him get embarrassed twice in two meetings by Kulusevski vs Parma and then the Liverpool and Barcelona games.

he’s lost form after his injury , been bang average last year. And he plays on the left of a 2 at Napoli ,we already have ake and laporte.

this is a signing we should of made 2 years ago not now when he’s career is going down hill ..

we should be going all out for
Upamecano

Thought so. So you are making your comparison no doubt on those two poor games (take your word for it as didn't see them) against what games Stones played for us?

It wasn't just because our defence that we didn't mount a challenge this season though. It was mostly because we had too many games where we didn't take our chances.
For next season we already have Aké and then hopefully Laporte can stay fit. I'm far from convinced that Koulibaly is a huge upgrade on Stones for example. I haven't watched him a lot but every time I watched him he's been awful and according to those who watch him every week in Serie A he's had a poor season. He's 29 years old and 70m is a huge investment. I'd much rather splash 100m out for Upamecano now instead of getting Koulibaly for 70.

City games points dropped without scoring, when conceding 1 goal or less= 3 points loss in 38 games.

0-1 at Southampton.

Other losses without scoring:

O-2 Wolves
0-2 Spurs
0-2 Utd

So we would have needed 3 goals in each game, to win, or 2 for a point.

City points from 1-0 wins=
Sheff U & Leicester= 6 points.

Liverpool points from 1-0 wins= 15.

City points dropped when scoring 1 goal= 9

Liverpool 1-3 = 4 goals needed for win.
Utd 1-2 = 3 goals needed for a win.
Chelsea 1-2= 3 goals needed for a win (end of season).

City, points dropped when scoring 2 or more goals= 12

Spurs 2-2 = 3 goals needed for a win
Newcastle 2-2 = 3 goals needed for a win
Norwich 2-3 = 4 goals needed for a win
Wolves 2-3 = 4 goals needed for a win
Palace 2-2= 3 goals needed for a win

Liverpool points dropped scoring 2 goals =0.

FA Cup semi final= 3 goals needed for a win
Champions League q final= 4 goals needed for a win.

Can we get rid of this idea, that our defending isn't the main problem ?
