Kalvin Phillips

Read this on the BBC earlier not helping himself if true.

England midfielder Kalvin Phillips needs "support and people to help him", says West Ham manager David Moyes.

The 28-year-old was allegedly caught making an offensive gesture to fans while getting on the team bus after Saturday's loss at Newcastle
There’s no ‘allegedly’ about it! He stuck his finger up at a fan that called him useless.

Assuming no add ons have been activated, we paid £42m for him on a 6 year deal.

It's all well and good City saying they're willing to take £30m for him but who is going to pay that? They also need to factor in that he's got 4 years left on massive wages. That's going to impact the selling price.

It hasn't worked out at City and nothing about his time at West Ham suggests he is likely to return to his best any time soon. We're not talking about a young player here either.

The only team I can imagine being willing to take some kind of punt on him at a half decent fee for us is Leeds if they get promoted. But even then it's a risk as he won't be playing under Bielsa there any more.

Think Leeds would be daft to offer £30m for him (which would represent a £2m account profit for us). Our own manager has quite publicly admitted that signing him was a mistake and he has no future here. I'd be offering £20m max and City will face the choice of taking an £8m accounting loss or lose nearly £15m in amortisation and wages by keeping him another year and not using him. Our negotiating position is about as weak as it gets.

We ain't getting anywhere near 30m for him with that contract, it will end up a token fee and the buying club taking on his contract.

Why would anyone want to pay anything for him. I could see a free transfer and like you say the new club picking up his wages. I fear Nunes will be the same in another 12 months

Another loan next season
Yes. I would have preferred him to have gone to Italy in January, where I think he would have been under less scrutiny and where the pace/style of play would have been more conducive to his recovery; I don’t think people appreciated, perhaps himself included, just how far he had fallen. We probably thought West Ham was a good landing spot because any upturn in his performance would have made him a potential makeweight in any future deal involving Paqueta, but that now looks less likely than ever.

After being trained for two years by Pep his value should go up ( was bought for 45m)

I admire your optimism but isn't the issue that, sadly, he seems to have been unable to benefit from this training and if anything it might have highlighted his limitations? It's a valid argument on paper but I doubt market sentiment will be swayed by it.

It's one thing for it not to have worked out at City, no shame in that, but unfortunately his current loan spell will hardly have inspired confidence, his or potential suitors.
