Kalvin Phillips

This particular thread got a call out in The Athletic’s recent article about Phillips. Just mentions how it’s far longer than other players.

I don't think Phillips was that bad last night like some are making out, I think we need to get our heads around the fact that he is never going to be Rodri. I wanted last night to go well for Phillips as im sure others did too but one thing that did strike me was his lack of intensity with and without the ball. Now this may be down to confidence or fitness because I never saw him lack intensity in a Leeds shirt. For a player with a lot to prove id have thought he would have been as intense as he could possibly be but he maybe didnt want to come across as 'trying too hard'. I do hope he can get a run of games and get his confidence up as a back up to Rodri is eesential. In reality though I think that back up could end up being Nunes/Kova.

The Athletic gets to write an article about Philips behind paywal with the source of that said article is from this very thread.

Must be very nice and easy to get job like that.

good first half, bad 15 min. after half time & stable for the rest of the game...we know passing is his best skill & he had some nice moments but i`m surprised how bad/slow his acceleration is (1-5 meters)..perhaps it is a lack of match fitness or the reason pep don`t trust him as a lone 6

Journalists refer to social media all the time. Bluemoon is no different to Twitter or Instagram in terms of a source.

That's exactly the issue, he's not bad.

But do you ever believe he will put in a match winning display or even dominate a game?

Just seen their goal from last night again. He’s tracking runners then stops on the edge of the penalty area. And I mean stops. Comes to a halt instead of sensing danger (obvious cross coming in) and seeing the back post overload.

Basic stuff like that is infuriating. Spray passes when you have time all you want but do the ugly side of the game too.

Playing Peps way doesn’t suit every player. Kalvin‘s best attributes that saw him thrive at Leeds and play well for England are completely different to our style. In addition, lack of game time has possibly led to him looking very sluggish and slow to react. Extra game time may help but I’m not sure he’ll get loads more chances here under Pep. I desperately want the lad to do well and certainly won’t be giving up on him. Whoever pulls on that shirt will have my support. Fingers crossed he turns it around, there’s a player in there and there’s a lad that wants to fight for his place, good luck to him.
