Kalvin Phillips

“I really can’t be bothered today . . . just the same thing. Go in, train, go home and not have anything to be excited for. It was stressful.”

“After the World Cup was probably the toughest, when Pep came out and said I was overweight. He was right to do so but there are different ways to go about it"

“Pep was frustrated I didn’t come back into training early but it was just a miscommunication between the people at City and myself.

“Pep wanted me to come in the day after we finished the tournament and be involved in friendlies and stuff. I never got that information because if he asked me to be there, I would have.

“It was just a misunderstanding, he was very frustrated with me coming back 1.5kg over my target weight.

“It took a big knock on my confidence and how I felt at City. My family were not happy about it, either. Especially Mum.”

...and yet when he knew he wasn't wanted in the summer, he stayed with us, passing up the chance for regular football, just to be in the same situation!
Strange that, i guess taking all that money for doing nothing isn't that stressful after all!!!

Started 6 games in 1 and a half seasons At City. We lost 3 of them. He must have the worst win-rate of any City player since the takeover.

The 3 we didn’t lose were a dead rubber at Red Star, Bristol City in the Cup, and an end-of-season dead rubber in the league against Chelsea.

Pep only chanced him to start in dead-rubbers, against lower-league opposition, and the Carabao Cup, in which we have a 0% win-rate when he started.

Those are frightening numbers.

Nice-natured, it seems. An admirable quality, if you’re a spaniel.

The fire in his belly seems to have gone. Unless he rediscovers some of it, he’ll be out on loan for the next few seasons with us paying his wages.

Meh! He’s never pulling on a City shirt again so I’ve already moved on from him.

lol. Who’s a good boy

It’s strange, the attitude he’s had (not confident, self pity, not his own fault) is everything I thought he wouldn’t be.

I thought he’d be a strong character, young lad from Leeds who was the rock of their midfield and also England’s all of a sudden turned to a deer in headlights when he joined and seems to be blaming everybody but himself.

The writing was on the wall after that early interview he did saying he’s relying on his second season being good because that’s ‘what usually happens under Pep’…’look at Jack’. Couldn’t believe it when he said that.

I wanted him to do well but all this coming across like he’s been saved from a City nightmare is laughable really considering he refused to leave in the Summer.

He’s lucky Southgate picks his favourites or waiting until January to move could’ve been detrimental to his Euros hopes.
