KDB's Pace

He is unbelievable. Long strides when he sees space, legs it into space, doesn't look particularly quick but you notice quick young defenders legging it back don't catch him before that devastating pass to a team mate through on goal. What a player.

He has re-kindled our ability to counter-attack quickly. The slow, boring build-up has suddenly become a thing of the past. It is this wider impact on the team that sets him apart as a special player.

Was Bell a better player ? Would be interested to hear those who watched City through the 60s and 70s as I did. For me Bell had just about everything and could play in almost any position.

You simply can't compare them, Bell was head and shoulders above anything we had seen at that time, he played in muddy, snowy and sodden pitches.... not the Axmister they play on today. Bell will always be the best in my view and never will a play with that integrity and passion grace our carpets again.

Anyone saying De Bruyne is just a quick thinker and doesn't have much pace, watch Aguero's first goal again. Baba Rahman, the guy who outran Navas a couple of times, couldn't keep up with him.

Not saying De Bruyne's quicker than Navas or Baba Rahman but he definitely has a surprising amount of speed.

Does this forum use player-topics? I see a topic about KDBs speed and one about him kicking a ball again, but isn't easier to put it all in one KDB-topic?

He is a rare combination of superb off the ball movement, quick footballing brain and superb passing and shooting. By anyone's reckoning, that is some player. He is not a speed merchant but the ball moves faster than any player and he is a master of direct football in its most positive sense.

It used to be that way but got changed recently as a matter of policy.

Classic example is Nasri Back in Training... He's been playing full tilt FFS.

No problem with experimenting but the player thread format was patently superior to this.

I think the one thing that KDB is good at is he knows where to run to. On that first goal it's obvious that if he just goes straight (red arrow), Baba would eventually catch up to him. Notice that the direction he runs to is straight into Baba's front (blue arrow) as to cut him off, Baba had to stop for a milisecond and that's where the separation comes from.

De Bruyne is not lightning but neither is he a slouch but when you combine his above-average pace with his footballing brain and knowledge of movement, you get a deceptively quick player.

think of classic central mids over the years who 'appear' to have more time on the ball than other players.

Just pure, unadulterated ability.

World class player, only 25 years old in summer as well, best years still to come. Can't wait to see him under Guardiola

Best signing since Aguero easily
