Both are wrong and weird. A quick Google image search shows, that you have to go back as far as Maggy to find a PM or leader of the opposition other than Johnson doing it.

There should be a clear symbolic line between military and politics, and as both of those men haven't served in any capacity it just comes across as a very transparent and cynical cosplay.
Perhaps he thought a flak jacket was needed in case any of the troops with guns were Corbyn fans.

Though I doubt there will be mess briefings against Starmer like some regiments did against Corbyn.
 

The article is pretty funny to be fair. It said it’s like going to Mexico and wearing a sombrero. Apparently wearing a flak jacket is equivalent to cultural appropriation. It also didn’t mention all the times Johnson visited factories, hospitals and building sites and looked like he’d been to Mr. Benn’s shop first. Absolute nonsense article from start to finish.
