As she’s standing down at the next election it’s a no brainer. If she would be displacing another candidate then that would be wrong. As it is, it’s just a kick in the bollocks to Sunak and an extra vote for Labour in Parliament which is hard to turn down. Although the optics aren’t great the fact she’s standing down means it will be forgotten in no time by most people.

True.

Within the political Westminster bubble this is a massive issue for both parties. It's aggravating the Labour left and generally causing panic in the tories.

Starmer and the Labour leadership would have had time to pick over the pros and cons of this. They can afford to take some grief from the left wing. They have capital and can use it.

Rishi is hanging on. He's only still there as they can't change to a 4th leader in a 5 year term without another massive dent in the already battered credibility profile. This is another blow in the face. Tory MPs are facing the abyss.


Outside Westminster the general public just see this as more Tory failure. Not many people will give a shit about her voting record or how well she sits within the Labour spectrum. It will be forgotten fairly quickly just like all the other Tory defectors and quitters. What will remain is the general sense that the tories were awful and don't deserve to win elections.
