You do understand he was trying to achieve peace?

He had principles, you didn't like his principles. That's fair enough, even understandable. I think he was naive in some ways. He would not have made a good PM as he would not have been sufficiently pragmatic.

But the kind of people who get into power in this country tend to be lying cunts with no principles. We knowingly elect them, and then are surprised when we find they take bungs and arselick influential people.

We have only ourselves to blame for the type of men and women who 'succeed' in politics. Our only excuse is the power of the media and its lies. You can also argue that we, the electorate, expect too much. That we are not realistic enough. We ask people to do a very difficult job for relative buttons, then are surprised when they turn out not to be Gandhi. It's a shit job. You get paid far more in the private sector for half the responsibility. Hell, you even get paid more in the civil service for little less responsibility. But in the private sector or civil service you will not be lampooned every day in the press, nor will your personal habits and manner of dress be dissected and mocked.
