Keir Starmer

I would resign my membership in disgust if he got elected. It was the likes of him who forced the contrarian position on the EU,when we should always have been the party of Leave. Benn and his ilk put siding with the capitalists before siding with our people.

He is as much to blame for Johnson as anyone.
Interesting piece in The Guardian about the background to the party's eventual position. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/dec/13/inside-labours-campaign-behind

It blames Thornberry, Starmer and others, including Abbott, for forcing the naturally Eurosceptic Corbyn into a more pro-Remain stance. Had he been a real leader he'd have stuck with his instincts from the start of this instead of contorting himself into the incomprehensible and indefensible position he ended up in, and yesterday's disaster might have been avoided.

It’s not a con mate, I think it might be a con whoever is telling you it’s centre left. I heard John McDonnell say the same thing and I burst out laughing.

Renationalising the railways, water, electricity, BT and providing free broadband for all and setting up a national investment bank, increasing corporation tax for all business turning over more than £300k (which would include most corner shops in this country), moving to a 4 day working week, giving private tenants the right to buy the property they rent, they’re not centre left policies, mate. They’re Maxist policies.

If you don’t think they’re left wing enough, I can only assume you haven’t seen what’s been happening in Venezuela?

Venezuela....the propaganda worked very well didn't it. You have just proved it.

We have just elected the most right wing PM in our nations history, but you are banging on about Venezuela and Marxism. Democratic Socialism is not Marxism, public ownership of utilities is not Marxist, Marxism is control of all the means of production by the workers.

And why on earth anybody would be against the introduction of a 4 day week is just beyond me. Do people really actually want to work themselves to death and not take advantage of the upcoming technological advances that will make a lot of work currently not needed. Free Broadband is about equality of opportunity, if everyone has the same opportunity to progress then the whole country benefits, it is an effective investment. Our corporation taxes are amongst the lowest on the planet and will get lower as we hand gompanies even larger tax breaks and they use them to line the pockets of their shareholders. We need a national investment bank, its Keynesian in approach using the economic multiplier effect to create growth. Its basic common economic sense to do ot rather than rely on foreign investment to take up the slack.

Starmer would be my choice, but can’t see it happening.

Rather him than Thornberry who is being touted, if Labour would have come out as a Brexit party they'd have won last night IMO, they underestimated the will people had of seeing Brexit done and dusted.

The Guardian have been a disgrace the last few years. Typical of the middle class remainer cult. I don't read it, I stopped buying the Observer as well as that was just as bad.

“Our people”?? I’m starting to think you’re either trolling the thread or just completely misinformed.

More Labour voters voted remain than leave. The opposite is true of the Tories.

The dismantling of the Labour red wall tells a different story. The Labour Party is more than middle class liberals.
