Keir Starmer

Why post that, when you could have listened again? It's not clear but he's presumably talking about his wife working in the NHS "on the front line, keeping people alive, so I really don't need lectures from you about this pandemic". The guy was ranting about making children wear masks in schools - what's that got to do with closed pubs?

As I said when presented with a small window of opportunity people often go over the top and they never get over what they really want to say it just comes across as a crazy rant.

We don't know that's what Starmer was referring to in his reply but it's still appears condescending.

The landlord was a man gone over the edge and he had seconds to give Starmer some stick before his security got him away and the opportunity was gone. Your ordinary man rarely gets a chance to confront these people so when they do it often looks aggressive and deranged because of the small window of opportunity. They have to provoke a reaction from the politician otherwise they'll just ignore them and move on. I'm sure I heard Starmer say, " I'm not discussing this with the likes of you," which suns up the contempt they feel for the general public as a whole.

He didn't say that. There wasn't much point talking to the landlord because he wasn't interested in a two conversation and just wanted to vent anger.

It was daft to enter the pub afterwards though, they should have moved on.

To be fair I’m not sure it was clear the bloke was the landlord nor that he would deny Starmer just for holding a different opinion than him. Think I’d swerve that boozer if I was local not really the sort of tolerant establishment I like to frequent. And he was obviously bang up for it, had a graph ready, I always carry a graph around with me just incase I bump into an MP.

Hope he enjoys his 5 minutes of fame

I bottled out of a chance to confront Michael Heseltine. Just happened to be in Bolton when he was, and he'd opposed Thatcher on the poll tax. I passed his entourage, and would have asked "Why did you vote for the poll tax in Scotland but not in England?"

It's almost pointless because on the whole they couldn't give a fuck about the man/woman in the street except election time. They view us with total contempt.

Yeah I got that too, I think they assumed he was just a nutter. From some of the tweets put out in response, it seems that Starmer was invited beforehand by a co-owner of the pub, looks like Landlord got wind of it beforehand hence the graphs.

Nonsense, if that doesn't sound condescending.

I think a lot of them do care - they just lack the life experience and humanity to understand the man in the street and his day to day issues. Take Johnson. Described half a million for writing a column chickenfeed. Says he can't survive on a £150k PM's salary, moans coz he has to pay for his own food in number 10 and that of his guests and worries that he won't be able to afford Archie's fees at Eton.

He will have no concept of the man in the street who has £40 for the weeks food and 2 kids one needing £20 shoes and the other a £20 coat and having to decide do the family eat that week or do kids go to school with wet feet and no coat.

They give speeches saying the get it and they understand but they never will - most Labour MP's these days are like that too.

Spot on. I think I saw that house of lords members were getting paid more to turn up for a vote than a family received in benefits for a week. A lot of these people were born into wealth so have no concept of what struggling to feed your kids and pay bills is like. Of what never doing anything with your life but work to just exist. No holidays, treats nothing. Just pay bills and feed and clothe your kids.

The working class ones, of which there aren't many, often forget all that as soon as they get their noses in the trough. Two fucking jags was a perfect example. He came down to the picket line at Dover in 1988 and as an ex seaman said, "Don't worry lads if we get elected we'll look after you.," Once he did he didn't return one call. Wankers the lot of them.

Hypocritical ****.

Tweets justice over Chauvin trial. Yet he sacked RLB for supporting Maxine Peake's article on the IDF training US police forces to use the tactic that murdered Floyd.

Did you see these fuckers got something like £160 to go on line and record a message of gushing praise to Prince Philip that was classed as an "attendance allowance" ?

That's the one I meant. They get paid a daily allowance to turn up at the house of lords, have a heavily subsidised boozy lunch, fall asleep and go home. A single mother gets £20 cash in hand for a bit of cleaning and claiming benefits and they want her locked up. Absolute cunts and it has always been this way you in my lifetime and for years prior.

Keith did well at PMQs today, Johnson looked like a naughty little boy caught stealing a lollipop from the Eton tuck shop.

Its about time he was asked about this constant barrage of accusations around corruption, cronyism and stupidity. Not that he answered, he just went on wild rants about a totally different subject.

I was going to post the same. There was something Keith lacked mind.

Passion. He was asking the questions in his usual monotonous tones.

Milliband would have been raging and Corbyn's righteous anger would have resonated with the country.

I think Starmer's character is what the country needs after the bluster and bullshit of Johnson. Whilst he might lack passion, his meticulous lawyer-like boringness and general air of competence will be a welcome relief. A bit like Biden after Trump.

If anyone’s got a bit of personality there labelled a clown or a c*nt

if someone’s just pretty normal there labelled ‘boring’

can’t win.

I don’t care how much personality our next PM has. I just want competence. In general I would want someone charismatic who has the ability to bring large numbers of people on board, but after Johnson someone competent and trustworthy would be welcome irrespective of other personality traits. Personally I think Starmer comes across well anyway.
