Seems perfectly logical to me. The last one seems silly I never mix my rum and whisky(intentially)

You missed mine

Would this not crossover if Labour were big on trans equality as a policy which I believe they are. I see plenty of discussions on policies for all parties being discussed in this thread and the Tory one.
Fair enough, don’t think Starmer has really made any pronouncements either way on trans equality though, from what I’ve seen at least. Not really sure where he stands on it.

I think Labour in the main are quite keen but Keir appears a little reticent as he knows it could be a minefield. It’s something he needs to play very carefully I think he would prefer it to just disappear.

“I don’t think the (Gender Recognition Act) legislation goes far enough . That then takes us into difficult questions. Let’s take those difficult questions in a mature, calm way without taking sides.” .....

“There’s a better way and that is to reflect and do it in a mature, I would hope cross-party, basis."

Fair play he ain’t daft whether it will work will depend on how much support the likes of RLB will get. I would guess they will get marginalised pretty quickly.

I read that as lets not make this in to a massive political issue as the only people interested in that are the extremes and 99% of the population think its not a big issue and can be resolved without any drama.

You're wrong mate. The Tories won't move on this, there's no upside for them, traditional values and all that. This topic has no traction in the Tory heartlands and very little in their new northern seats. Cummings wants this to rumble on, the economy is going south, there are some tough times ahead for the Tories. Starmer might appear like a boring bank clerk, but he's beginning to look like a safe pair of hands across the dispatch box from the fat fool, so far the Tories haven't been able to lay a glove on him, so they'll want the Labour Party he leads to look like a rag bag collection of identity politics fruit loops, and this is a handy little fire cracker to set off from time to time in the coming culture wars, which if you think about it is all these Tory f**kers have left.

99% of the population might not think this is a big issue, but over 50% of the population are women, an easy win for the Tories would be to frame this as safeguarding women's rights, safe spaces, single sex wards, toilets, changing rooms, women's sport, etc, etc, and so on and so forth, it might play well with the Asian community as well and all they have to do is nothing and watch Starmer swivel, It's a no brainer.

I fully agree on this. There is nothing to be gained by Starmer on this - its not a vote winner. The tories will as you say keep poking at it as it plays to their idiot base. But Starmer is adept at not giving them oxygen. See his total lack of brexit comments to date. He knows what they want to talk about it and he doesn't take the bait.

I beg to differ, changes to the gender recognition act has no traction in the country that's true, but it does have traction amongst the young in the Labour party, as Owen Jones puts it, for the young in the party it has become an "act of faith" to vigorously campaign to change the gender recognition act. But it is a Marmite issue, those against it in the party are very against it, Why does this matter? Because we are four and a half years from an election, Starmer is head of the party but he does not yet lead it, and trivial as this issue might seem from the outside looking in, it is symptomatic of major fault lines in a bruised and divided party.

So far Starmer has used language designed to create consensus, but it's political fluff and nonsense, and he knows it, there's no consensus and those on the left who held their noses and voted for Starmer because of his leftish rhetoric at the hustings are beginning to smell a rat, the sacking of RLB did not go down well on the left, paying off the blairite staffers didn't either, and now they see him back peddling on the gender recognition act, the cry of Blair Mark II can be heard.

You might consider this noises off, but these things matter when resentment and recrimination are the order of the day. Labour is in the wilderness now, the party is divided top to bottom, issues like this take on a significance far greater than those on the outside appreciate.

The Tories? They will do precisely nothing to help Starmer, that should not surprise anyone.
