On the subject of starmer who and why does a Labour politician have a knighthood? Anthony Wedgewood Benn renounced his peerage and lived by his principles. I didn't agree with his politics but he was utterly sincere in his beliefs.

His son is sir Hillary Benn and likely will be remembered for nothing.

Tony Benn has the Post Office Tower and Concorde as some of his achievements.

My family live in Cheadle, pro Labour but trying to drum into them by voting for the lib Dem would've unseated the tory, hard work! Hope PR can be implemented in my lifetime to actually give true democracy to people but vested interests are there for a reason.

I don’t know much about Andrew Gwynne, but if he is as you describe, he’s very different to his dad.

Hilary Benn is one of the best MPs imo. Hideously underused by his party.

I’m not supporting what he did, just stating what he had said about the way the party were dealing with the strike issue.

Personally I’d applaud the bloke for standing with mates.

Not convinced by Hillary tbh. But it is very worrying for parliament and our engagement with politics that we've got the politicians we deserve. Both main parties have purged a lot of sensible moderate voices, and we are where we are.

Totally agree about John Gwynne was different class. Gutted I never saw him around M34.
 
There’s some very misguided views on here regarding the Labour Party and the unions,
I’ve been in a position for to long in trying to hold this together, they either engage more with the unions or be lost forever. With the right wing press etc.. that’s all they have to fight the cause.

Apologies. I didn't mean to make it look like it was a dig at you. Just venting my frustrations. I've stood 7 hours on a picket line today and the support was humbling. A proper labour MP came and spoke to us and donated more cash to our hardship fund. For that she might get punished by the purple labour leader.

Don't disagree that Starmer is bending over for the likes of Murdoch but not sure you've joined the dots up in the correct order on this.

It was Starmer, or whoever leaked the memo, that painted themselves into this corner forbidding ministers to attend pickets. Given that, and I am no fan of our political media, surely that's a legitimate line of questioning.

None taken, mate. Good on you for standing up to this, most can see what the government are doing and I would definitely like to see Labour take a different stance. However, I sort of understand Starmer’s reasoning as he‘s been consistent in stating that the front bench shouldn’t be on the line, they should be working hard to support and get government to change. He’s also stated that inflation busting pay rises aren‘t the way forward so a medium needs to be negotiated for a satisfactory end, especially with regard to working conditions.

I think most understand why you are striking and it’s only those hardline wankers complaining because they want to be aligned to the current Tory government. Keep up the good work because if they erode anymore rights, we really will be into a new Dickensian era.

I’m no trade unionist and as everyone knows, I’m not left wing either but to withhold your Labour is not a crime. Supporting strikers is not a crime. Trade Unions supporting its members and representing them is not a crime and for a Union backed Labour Party to sack a minister because he does what the party was founded for, standing up for workers rights is fucking shocking tbh.

What is Starmer thinking? What are his supporters thinking?

What if any opposition do we have politically in this country now to the Tories?

It’s free reign for the Billionaires who see us as slave labour sadly.

We don't often agree ideologically or politically, so it just shows that starmer is ballsing it up when we are both of the same opinion
