Keir Starmer

You’re right, the country is right wing, especially England.

There’s not really much you can do at the moment if you are Labour but jumping into bed with the SNP is suicide.
Indeed. It’s pretty damning and pretty painful. I grew up in Middleton and for them to vote Cons, including my mum, is shameful for Labour.

I lived there for 12 months so I do know the area.

It is pretty profound they have switched and is telling of Labour’s demise.

It’s not just Labour’s demise they just don’t offer what those people want anymore. Until Labour act tough on things like immigration they won’t get those votes back. The polls are absolutely damning considering we’re 11 years into a pretty terrible Tory reign.

Same here
My mum was labour 100% and still would never ever vote Tory in a million years
Only problem is she doesn’t vote labour either
Sad thing on here is that some would blame her and don’t see it may actually be the Labour Party that is the issue!

I know the area well
The issue is brexit and trust.
if you vote out and then your mp is voted in again on the basis of making it happen and then ignores it for years and does everything she can to avoid it you have two options
1 fuck her off
2 be happy to be lied to
People in that area will never go for option 2
They used to say you could pin a red Rosette on a donkey and it would win
Only this version of labour have managed to lose a one horse race
This is the same in many northern towns and not a one off

True, but I think what we understood as working class doesn’t really exist anymore, so it can be a bit misleading. Think there was some sort of national study a few years ago that identified 7(?) different classes. Clearly didn’t catch on tho.
It's not the study you're thinking of but the Social Grade classifications are generally well accepted (used in the Census)

Social Grade A, B, C1, C2, D, E - UK Geographics

C2, D & E more or less equate to what used to be called "working class". But C2 jobs could well be much better paid than C1.

This trump type denial or reframing of election results that don't fit our preconceived ideas of who votes for what blind us to reality sometimes. This blindness is preyed upon by opportunists like Boris who saw an opportunity to grab power and a huge majority while people were essentially distracted by trivia. Not a dig at you Vic, just a general comnent on the demise of losers consent in democracies.
Er - doesn't that mean you expect consent to being ruled by people who exploit people distracted by trivia? In the context of Brexit, that surely meant three years trying to get across to the distracted people that they were duped by trivia (or lies as I prefer to call it).

Corbyn too far left, Staermer too right.

Who is this magical Labour leader that can please all voters ?
Well nobody can please all voters.

The same posters on here moaning at Boris being too eccentric and a bumbling clown think Starmer is too bland and boring for being professional.

Why? Because he replaced their man Corbyn and politics is like football now.

Starmer’s policies will be more left wing than Miliband’s and he’s more left wing than Burnham, who is a Blairite, but you wouldn’t think it reading the last couple of pages.

Labour has a vacum when it comes to this and has had for along peroid of time.

The equilibrium within the PLP has been unbalanced since browns departure, unfortunately those that came after blair/browns time were bereft in new ideas or thinking or the future of the nation, and just sounded like they were in sync woth theor opppsosition, corbyn was a tosser with no conviction to his beliefs and a mard arsery to his ditractors .

Starmer is just not saying enough or anything to anyone to bring all sides together.

Unless another John Smith type unifier appears with a clear vision tgat throws crumbs put tp alp factions while keepingthe patrys core principles Labour will drift
