Keir Starmer

Give me an infighting Labour with a decent, honest value driven person leading it any day of the week vs a morally corrupt bunch of liars that laughingly call themselves a Conservative government. The choice will be stark. More of the same corruption, lies and incompetence or someone that lead the Crown Prosecution Service succesfully.
If I was in England I sure know which one I would vote for irrespective of any doubts I had about the togetherness of the labour party.
The success of his time at CPS is under scrutiny.

Asked to name 3 great Britons on the radio this morning he named.

The 1966 world cup team.

The 2021 England football team.

And the military.

In one answer it kind of summed up what's so annoying about him and his advisers. Obviously a prearranged question, its so easy to just name 3 people. Shakespeare, Churchill, Brunel, dickens, Darwin, Berners-Lee, Montgomery etc. You can even get a bit fun with it and show off some personality - say George Harrison if you're a Beatles fan. Hes an Arsenal fan so say Ian Wright or Pat Jennings or something.

Instead they just overthink and see. try to pander with every answer. It feele like some focus group said he needs to make people think he likes the armed forces and football so was told to squeeze them in no matter how stupid and clumsy.

Hed come across so much better if he just gave a normal answer to a simple question, showed a bit of personality and charisma.

I agree with you. Pick a member of the 66 and 21 football teams and a figure from the military. The trouble is, someone will probably dig into his answer and find that they once slagged off someone and then he'll be accused of having a racist/sexist etc. hero.

Starmer on Kay Burley.

"I'm not copying any leader from the past..."

*Starmer starts hand gesticulating like Blair*

I'm 99% sure it was a question he'd been given in advance because he named them way too quick for it to be spontaneous. So someone could have researched it and given him some unimpeachable figures to go for. His mother was a nurse, so Florence Nightingale - don't think she's got too many skeletons in the closet.

I think maybe you've tapped into why I found it so annoying, that kind of fear of giving a straight answer that you might have to stand by leading to just absurd non-committal answers.

When this starts surfacing you know he has them rattled - see Blairs drunken son and Mrs smile - Milliband's dad and doctored photo's of Corbyn ...... the minute the right feel under threat they mobilise a media assault on someone's character.

Yeah you are quite right. That's my frustration with him. He's trying to be cleaner than clean and even when many within his party are saying things that some see as controversial, he's not backing them up. He needs to quite quickly learn that in today's society and in the position he is in, he will offend someone. That's the whole nature of politics. If he can get some good political training he may just win the next election. But currently he has no chance because Boris is an expert at talking bollocks and getting votes. Keir is still in a court of law talking as if his audience are rational and making decisions based on logic and facts. Those things don't matter when the media can twist anything and everything.

It's actually an article from last year would guess they will hold fire till needed in the run up to election.

I look forward the BBC being as thorough with Bozo next week.

I'm sure they will provide the same for Boris' speech. The main difference will be that he doesn't tell a single fact and manipulates data to suggest he's delivered results. It's like the lovely National Insurance increase. It's increasing by 1.25% don't you know. Except it's actually rising by over 10%. The selective use of language is done on purpose. 1.25 percentage points would be the accurate way to report it, as well the government know.

Completely agree but the infighting won’t get them in.
