Keir Starmer

Had to be done. Just put £50 on at 5/1. Yes, I know it's not a fortune but I don't gamble and I am a coward.
I predict, come April, you will be the gleeful recipient of three hundred Sovs, the pack of nutters that are
calling the shots make it a racing cert;)

Maybe you can explain why, if they poll so well, nobody EVER votes for them?
Never, so why keep on with something, if after umpteen decades it gets rejected time and again?
Somehow, I knew racism would come into it, even if a discussion is about wallpaper it'll be mentioned again.

As I keep on saying to you this election was a Brexit election any policies were either over looked or ignored this was the message that was repeated time and time again on the doorstop. Go and have a look at YouGov or someone similar. IBut again show me that these policies were rejected and whilst your at it show me the evidence that this isn't a populist government. I get it you don't like the R word but I can give you many examples of populism in the current regime we are ruled by.

The problem the Labour party had was that people DO like some of the policies but this GE wasn't about policies but about Brexit. But even if it was just about policies, Labour simply offered far too many of them. Fund the NHS properly and renationalise the railways (showing how this could be done without significant expenditure) should have been the two major policies they offered. These affect many people, including Tory voters. But they offered far too many and even so-called "traditional" Labour voters saw the party as a bunch of London-centric, metropolitan, sixth-form socialists who simply weren't grounded in any sort of day-to-day reality.

One of the reasons that the Leave vote won the Brexit referendum was that their message was a simple one that resonated with ordinary people whereas Stronger In failed ot get hte message across that there were significant advantages to remaining in the EU and got wrapped up in all sorts of arguments that simply didn't register with the day-to-day concerns of people outside Westminster.

hallelujah exactly what I have been saying all along just a shame the penny hasn't dropped with @Ancient Citizen yet.

I think she's a greater than 20% chance at least, which makes it a sensible bet.

Interesting dynamics going on. The Corbyns in a dress talking about the popularity of the manifesto and that they just didn't sell it well enough. And the more moderates painting the GE as a disaster of biblical proportion and existential threat unless there's wholesale change.

Neither version is true, but which way the PLP errs, will determine the next leader. In my view the result was not as terrible as Starmer and Nandy would have you believe and the PLP will believe the same old, same old, but with a different leader, is all that is needed. I.e. Wrong Daily.

It was the worst Labour defeat since prior to the 2nd World War, after the Tories nearly ripped themselves apart and after a decade of austerity measures (don’t wish to argue on austerity’s merits, just to say many were fed up).

They sat on the fence on the biggest question, in most people’s lives, in this country and got absolutely smashed.

I don’t think it could have gone much worse if they’d tried to purposely lose.

However I do agree that there isn’t a need for the irrational. They should just reverse back 3 years in policy, hold their hands up about Brexit, appoint someone who hasn’t met every sceptical group in the world and have questionable links to antisemitism, who can communicate better and someone who isn’t apart of the ‘woke’ movement.

These things are simple and would give them a fighting chance.

Once again, I thought Nandy was brilliant on Andrew Neil.

Get her in as leader, have Ian Murray as deputy to try and win back Scotland, and kick the lunatics out of the party and PLP, and Labour will win back its heartlands in 2024 and by 2029, be a party of government again.

The 2024 GE has gone for Labour now - there's too much poison still there and the 2019 defeat is too enormous to overhaul in 5 years but there's still good people in there, and we're entirely reliant upon them to save us from turning us into a one-party state.

Maybe Starmer can do the job but I think he's too sympathetic to Corbynism (I hope I'm wrong) but looking at the Survation poll, there's no guarantee he'll win anyway because there's the very real spectre of Corbyn's daughter looming over and killing the party for good.

RLB odds now down to 9/4 I note.

Perhaps Momentum giving its members the vast range of candidates to choose from, has something to do with it. They are offering them RLB, or RLB, or RLB and no other choice. Take your pick.

Lol, the penny doesn't need to drop with me mate, of course Brexit was a major factor, but to simply accept
that it was the only one is ridiculous. What happened to Labour in the three elections before all that, did they
win, or did I miss something?

Looks like I may be right about your 5-1 bet, the cult won't accept, or see reason, so enjoy the winnings;)
