We need LGBT+ inclusive education in every school – and teachers and schools must be defended as they deliver it.

Trans rights are human rights – though the
Gender Recognition Act was an important advance, it is clear that more needs to be done.

We must listen to the concerns of the trans community and their voices must be central in our policy making. We need to reform the GRA to include self-identification and legal recognition of non-binary gender identities.

Fucking hell they never learn

The first one, when you thought you'd made a cutting quip by referencing, and did not expect
me to know that, was responsible for this country begging the IMF for help, after yet another
monumental screw up of the economy, so no, I'm not exactly enamoured.

AC you really need to brush up on your history.

The reason Dennis had to go to the IMF was because of Heaths disastrous incomes policy that had left the countries economy is a mess. Healey gets the blame because the RW media have an alternative view on history obviously, as it was Healey who was on the deck at the time trying to plug the holes created by Heath and he had no choice.

Heath was a fucking idiot, he spoke nicely, but was a fucking clown and his ineptness opened the door for that wicked bitch Thatcher to take power.

I couldn't agree more with you about Heath, a useless PM, but he went in 1974, the
IMF bailout was late in 1976.

Just to confirm the chronology:

April 74 Conservatives leave office, leaving economy in shit condition.

1976 IMF bail-out. Reason? “Labour’s disastrous handling of the economy since 1974. Nothing to do with last administration.”

2010 Labour leaves office, leaving economy in shit condition.

2020. Britain’s inadequate state of readiness to deal with major pandemic pitilessly exposed. Reason? “Labour’s disastrous handling of the economy 1997-2010. Nothing to do with current administration.”

True-ish

1976 IMF bail-out. Reason? “Labour’s disastrous handling of the economy since 1974. Nothing to do with last administration.”

IMF bailout due to massive inflation and mismanagement, Labour continue in office until 1979, country
by then overtaking the Ottoman Empire as the 'Sick man of Europe.'

2010 Labour leaves office, leaving economy in shit condition.
Labour inherits a robust economy, Brown courts the City, starts spending like a drunken sailor,
increases public sector jobs, resulting in the Guardian's employment pages filled with a plethora of
non jobs with ludicrous positions in Govt and Council paying high salaries.
2008 crash appears, country in the mire, as no reserves built.
2010 Labour out, and as always, unemployment is higher, the champions of
the working class always leave more of them not working.

020. Britain’s inadequate state of readiness to deal with major pandemic pitilessly exposed. Reason? “Labour’s disastrous handling of the economy 1997-2010. Nothing to do with current administration.”
When all is reviewed after this ends, we'll see who why and where, but I've not
heard of any blame being attached to the previous govt. there may be,
but it's all a bit early yet.

Have you not been listening for the last 10 years? They were still trotting out the ‘there is no money’ letter in the December 19 election

That fucking note, was it Bryant who wrote it? Will haunt Labour for ever. What is never reported though is that it is sort of common courtesy and a bit of a tradition for an outgoing minister to leave a note for the incoming minister. Bryant badly misjudged it and it has proved very costly. After all it was meant as a bit of fun, not as an actually statement of fact.

The UK simply cannot run of money, it has its own central Bank but the economy is like a household narrative worked so well that huge numbers of people think It does. Bryants note hamstrung Labours ability to counter the narrative because the average Joe in the street doesn't have much understanding about how the economy actually works, but does understand household finances.

Don’t let anyone in this government off with ‘we are worst performers other than America’. Total number of deaths in the USA is less than three times the number of ours even though the population is five times bigger. So, they’ve had Trump, huge confusion, been late to act and send mixed messages every single day and even they’ve done better than us, relatively speaking.
Just on a statistical note, "less than three times the number of ours" is a bit imprecise. One death would be less than three times the number of ours. But the point is taken - we may well end up as the worst per capita excess deaths of any country.

So that's how mcfc1632 made his money...

Remember Corbyn at PMQ liked to read out ordinary people's questions?

Any helpful suggestions for Starmer on Wednesday?

"Who is more indispensable to controlling the pandemic? The Prime Minister, his adviser or NHS staff?"

Cant remember who wrote it, Russ, and the fact we can all recite the letter verbatim a decade later without knowing who wrote it speaks volumes. You’re completely right about the tradition, too - but the convention was always that what was said in those notes remained private. Who would have thought that the administration we had in 2010 would prove to be a bunch of cunts?

To be fair there wasn't. You can only borrow if someone is prepared to lend it to you at an affordable price. Labour's policies to reverse austerity would have pushed borrowing costs up dramatically probably leading to a bail out of some sort with massive strings attached.
At the moment EVERY country is in the shit economically, so savings, pensions, and investment funds !will lend money to governments as a safe haven.

I want Starmer to open with “I’m disappointed the Prime Minister is so contemptuous of parliament he sends Boris Johnson to speak for him”

If there wasn't any money, how come the Govt of the day could afford to cut the top rate of tax? Even the most hated man in the UK atm Cummings saw the stupidity in doing that.

Austerity was a sham, it was an excuse to redistribute wealth from those with least to those with most. It was an ideological drive to reduce the size of state and we can see the results of that now in all its glory, its been an absolute disaster and lead our country to thousands of needless deaths because of the cuts to essential services.

The UK government printed money to use as QE to bail out the banks whilst using the excuse that too many public libraries in Wolverhampton caused a financial meltdown.

You think lowering tax for the rich loses the government money? The government actually gain more tax revenue every time this occurs because the rich no longer spend as much money trying to hide their money from the taxman.
If you want to tax the rich and maximise investment you need to introduce a land tax and have a simple single rate income tax that everyone pays so the hard working and entrepreneurs are not penalised.
If you want fair business tax, corporation tax should be scrapped and replaced with a turnover tax based on market sector (some sectors are more profitable than others). Maybe ditch unfair VAT and incorporate it into the turnover tax as it is a similar form of tax based on sales.

Laffer was discredited many years ago.

That’s great, then you can all laugh about it
Then forgotten two minutes later.
Why not maybe ask questions relating to people dying or people losing money or the r rate or lockdown or testing or track and trace

If I was starmer I would look at what Corbin did. Stop think and do something totally different

Different times.

Johnson is weak on so many levels, but the most obvious weakness is he can't master the detail, because he's lazy and he's stupid. The best way to discredit the fat fool, which is what PMQs is all about for Starmer, is to relentlessly make Johnson look like he's out of his depth. Other people dying is other people dying, his supporters, for the most part, don't really give a fuck.

COVID-19 is beginning to slip in to the past, bizarre as that might be, besides, Starmer has played that hand already. What Johnson supporters do give a fuck about now is their future, their pensions, their jobs, their house prices, and they're beginning to suspect all these things are in the hands of an idiot.

A politician can be an arsehole, they can even prosper by being an arsehole, but they never prosper by appearing to be an idiot.

"What influence has the PM's unelected adviser had on the PM's claim that our track and trace system would be world-beating?"

"Other than by setting an awful precedent, does his adviser believe in encouraging people to follow instructions on lockdown and keeping R down as part of his civic duty?"
