Keir Starmer

I voted leave too, nothing to do with immigration or other dodgy issues, but I have been critical of the EU and its direction and politics for over 20 years. However, I accept that leaving has been a 'less than ideal situation', bearing in mind hindsight and recent developments with Russia. I think we need to reassess our position with the EU and whilst I am not a fan of Starmer I think he needs to push this now because it is an open door.
Politically, it's a revolving door.

Persuading Tory voters that Liar Johnson and the current government and Tory MPs in general are incompetent, venal and just nasty, is relatively easy. It’s harder to tell them that Brexit was a mistake that they voted for having believed the lies, or that the Rwanda "solution" is illegal and immoral and doesn't do what it says on Patel's tin (not value for money, and more likely to boost smugglers' business as they get two goes at getting people out of Africa).

Lammy is obviously not a historian. Still, even wiki gives September and November dates for the end of the Battle of the Somme (and men died at Ancre in 1917 before the German Army withdrew from the Somme) but - perhaps more pertinently to now - the press barons who say we can't change PM because of someone else's war were actively trying to replace Asquith during our own war (in which his son had died).

And the Suez crisis was obviously still a crisis for Eden until he resigned.

The details are obviously awry, but the point is still made. Of course the PM can be removed during a crisis.

If you're going to make a point and bolster it with "facts" then you need to get your facts right.

Of course Johnson has no wartime leader prerogative to hang on, everyone knows that, but Lammy's appalling performance does not advance that case, instead it reveals the paucity of the alternative.

It’s true that Lammy has demonstrated his uselessness, but it’s a stretch to say he is representative of the alternative. There’s plenty of Labour front benchers far more suitable and capable. Wouldn’t surprise me if he gets reshuffled away from the shadow cabinet.

I agree it would be nice to get the facts right. But even getting the facts wrong doesn't invalidate the point.

PMs resigned during both worid wars.

And compared to the constant lies and gaslighting from the government, I wouldn't worry about Lammy's historical inaccuracies.

Anyway, I hope those moaning about Lammy's historical inaccuracies will realise the paucity of the alternative - a supposed historian who makes stuff up.

Then don't worry, I'll do it for you.

You think crying Boris is a shit will win it for Labour.

Yeah, things can only get better, that'll work.

They did get better.

Class sizes cut, hospital waiting lists virtually abolished, other public services properly financed, etc etc.

I'm really not sure what you expect. Boris is nice but our guy is nicer? Or Boris is a shit, a liar and a lawbreaker (of his own laws), and he's uniquely noxious.

Yet here we are.....

If Johnson attends PMQ's Starmer should open with

" I have spent a career asking questions of convicted criminals I honestly never thought I'd be doing it in this place Mr Speaker......"

Being a prosecutor he wouldn’t ask questions of convicted criminals, he’d be asking questions of accused criminals before they’re convicted.

The accused could have already been convicted and was back in court on another charge - see Wayne Hennessy
