Keir Starmer

Lisa Nandy?
Rachel Reeves?
Wes Streeting?
Adolf Hitler, Idi Amin, Pol Pot.

Starmer doesn’t scare one nation Tories who think Johnson is a useless reckless lying fat twat. Corbyn frightened the shit out of them. Starmer is vanilla and will do enough to stop the Tories getting a majority.

I’ve always thought Dan Jarvis might have more electoral appeal for Labour. London is largely in the bag but they need to make inroads in the midlands and north, and Jarvis has connections with both. I see that he’s given up his role as Mayor of Barnsley, as of now, so it’ll be interesting to see if Labour appoint him to the front bench.

See beergate is being reinvestigated by Durham cops.
If Keith gets a fine and resigns this could prove very difficult for BloJo.
If the investigation clears him again he's in a much stronger position.
I think the Tories might be worried now.
It might have been better for them if no new investigation had been called. They could then have continued to sling mud around and call Keith a hypocrite.
But now?
We will see.
As for Labour a new more electable leader could benefit them.
A cleared Keith would put him in a stronger position.
Worse case scenario is he receives an FPN but doesn't resign.

Is this the same Durham cops who couldn’t wait to brush the Dominic Cummins affair under the carpet - clearly being politically exploited then and now.

I'd vote for Lewis.

He has the media personality that the electorate would listen to. Also has a good rapport with young voters.

Sir Keir personally endorsed Joy Allen and campaigned on her behalf as Durham PCC.

He'll do for me

It's a shame the sections of the media who are so desperate to find wrong doing in the Kier Starmer stuff weren't half as critical of Johnson and Co for their actual, proven rule breaking. Some will fall for it and others, will see it for what it is, a pathetic attempt to prop up the worst prime minister in history.
Yeah the media never mentioned Johnson and rule breaking, I don’t remember anyone mentioning it at all. It came as a real shock tbh, out of the blue like. It’s worse than the media thread on the main forum sometimes this place.

Weren’t half as critical pmsl.

Perhaps I should have been more specific when I referred to ''the sections of the media'' in my post. Mainly these include the Dacre run rags and the usual tory mouthpieces, the sun, telegraph etc, who throughout the government scandal were telling us there's a war on, there's bigger issues etc. It was then noticeable that in election week the biggest issue they could find was an alleged rule break by the leader of the opposition.

As for laughing about ''weren't half as critical'' just go back through the coverage in those papers and compare and contrast the coverage for Johnson and Co, which is proven and the Starmer stuff which is being investigated. As a case in point (If you can stomach it), just check out the sun homepage on your phone this morning. There's no less than 3 articles about Kier Starmer there, yet no mention of the election results, in which the tories lost nearly 500 seats. You can make you're own mind up as to why that is...

There are pro Tory papers alert the elders. This is not new or unusual however many posters on here are complaining about bias when they rather amusingly are the worst culprits. They ignore, dismiss or don't see the kicking their opposition gets.

In a nutshell its a football supporters mentality. It's a forum where the vast majority rightly dislike the tories but for some strange fucking reason they feel the need to participate in an echo chamber and in doing so diminish the value of their own posts.

At some point unless they like being in this little cult they need to realise all the info is out there. The great British public know what the tories are like. They are aware of what they have done but people will vote for them anyhow.

The problem is what is between the ears and in the hearts of our fellow countrymen and women.

Posters on here are doing exactly what the Mail does and they don't see the irony.

I would say Partygate was the most covered story in the papers and on the TV this year. They rightly got fuck loads of shit for it. I would imagine Starmer would have been well aware that if his smaller indiscretion came out it might be used against him.

That's the game and let's face it they and some on here are willing to play it.

Might be because the guy in charge of the Sun was at half the fucking parties wheeling a case of wine into Downing Street!

Sky‘s political correspondent has just stated that the Tories, when asked yesterday, were a little relieved with the results so far but now that the rest of the results have come in then that outlook has changed and it now looks far worse than even they expected. Some of their own are now calling for change in Cabinet.

Seemed a fair assessment to me, from Sky News, without any need to lean either way like most of the media do.

This!

If they were being politically exploited they’d have announced the renewed investigation before the elections - Durham police said they deliberately avoided announcing the investigation until after the elections. Nothing to see here whatsoever.

For me Starmer would probably be a very capable prime minister but he seems terrified to tell us how and why he would.

He needs to come up with a long term plan for this country with fairness at its core. Not 5 years but 10 or more years. Be honest with the electorate, tell them what you stand for and what your ideas are, and they will vote for him if they aren’t bat shit crazy and fair. I can’t recall a single idea he has put forward; we’ve had him bleating on about partygate and it looks like he’s been up to no good himself, we’ve had a windfall tax for the cost of living crisis - which is both disingenuous and a bit “typical left”. Everything is knee jerk, designed for the here and now, and lacks any vision. He’s had long enough to come up with some moderate plans but I suspect he’ll leave it to the election - which is the wrong approach with our politics in the state it is. Rise above it.

Let’s hear how Labour will genuinely level up this country - this is surely a core Labour/ moderate left idea and their bread and butter - but not only that it’s also what this country will vote for in their millions. I’m not talking about taxing the rich or better off until they squeak (that’s unfairness) or creating make believe jobs (as Blair was accused) but actually a plan, to invest for the long term. It’ll give the country time to digest it, to debate it, to allow him to fine tune it.

Level up? That is just a tory catch phrase to try and keep red wall seats next time, it would take 100 years to do so, not just a few town centre/ infrastructure grants to places which politically suit them.

Northern Power House was the last catch phrase, it meant nothing but made a good sound bite, and was so important they put Jake Berry in charge of it.

People think you can solve it with one policy, and it with be hundreds of policies needed to slightly mitigate the situation but not level up. I am sure they are working on a detailed manifesto which the critics and voters will not read, rather than getting a Saachi and Saachi catchphrase. We are in a mediacracy and people vote that way, no one is giving a shit about policies, and got what they deserved.
