If there is a leadership election then outside of Starmer a vote off between a current Tory wet like careerist cabinet member and the more socialist option is needed.
We will all be making a similar choice in a couple of years time. For those with more socialist leanings its hugely important that Starmer goes and isn't replaced by Streeting or another politician like him.
If Rayner or similar lead the labour party into the next election then the side of the line you fall on becomes much clearer.

The only conclusion centrist dad ever comes up with is everyone else is wrong apart from centrist dad. The terrible locals were down to devious trickery, the vocal and non vocal people in the PLP are obviously as stupid as the public.
Anyhow I wonder if Wesley is gonna shit the bed today?
 
I am genuinely baffled as to why people dislike him so much lots of people saying how useless, horrible and worst PM ever. He doesn’t excite me but he is measurably better than a few PM and more qualified than most politicians to do the job.

Those that supposedly excite people Farage Trump Boris tend to talk at best in slogans at worst jibberish and lies.

Lots of politicians do lots of speeches that are boring even Blair what speeches is he remember for ? None just a phrase education education education. People want Starmer to talk normal. Is saying Education Education Education normal ?

I’ve asked around and nobody really has a clue if Streeting is going for it yet. He seems to be struggling for numbers.

You may be baffled but you’ve offered no alternative narrative. You can’t tell me Starmer isn’t a fan of 3 word slogans, every time he is at the lectern we have one. Why do you think he is the best man for the job?

I have a feeling he will make a statement expressing strong support for Starmer, and his detractors will look for imaginary hidden meaning in his words. Then it will all blow over until Burnham gets into parliament after which a new crisis will be created out of nothing.
Meanwhile growth is up and the government are getting on with their legislative programme and no one will notice or give a shit until Starmer gets another freebie worth £50.

There's me thinking it was the battering at the locals, it was more about a £50 note you say? Labour losing Wales for the first time in over a century is a nothing crisis.

100% correct, said the same for years. If you are a doctor earning £130k per year you would be firmly believed to be upper middle class, yet if that said doctor couldn’t pay their bills without their job then they are well paid working class. Inherited money, trust funds, etc basically folk who could never do a days work in their life yet live a lavish lifestyle are rich, upper class etc the middle class construct is baloney, you are either of the money class or you are not.

But they're coming for them and their kids in a much bigger way now too, so you have to wonder how much longer the facade can hold up.

I suspect it'll be a next generation or two thing because for every current middle class kid who sees a nice bundle from his parents estate they'll be one or two who sees the outflow of that wealth into care fees or similar. Add in job insecurity and the decline of the traditional nuclear family and it'll be tough times ahead for many of the traditional middle income bracket. The decrease in social mobility means we wont be bolstering the ranks of the middle classes any time soon either. They'll always be some who manage to properly jump onto the asset roundabout but as the economy stays in a neglible growth downward loop, more and more of the middle classes will get properly squeezed because they don't have the level of assets needed to prosper in the current system.

Sometimes people think Reform only appeals to knuckle draggers but there's plenty of middle class or middle income people boosting Reforms numbers. It's a reaction to being squeezed but it's about the worst one they could have.

The point at which the lower/middle middle classes realise where their actual interests lie is the point it'll get interesting which is why so much effort is placed into obfuscating this.

They don't dislike him for anything he has done. There is a perception of dislike but that's because he isn't a socialist and he isn't a rabid right-winger who wants to boot out minorities. Those two factions are however totally in control of the narrative of politics at the moment and so they are loudly more extreme and exaggerate a lot.

We're just hopelessly divided into camps where of course the camps that we disagree with must contain the worst people to have ever lived... Starmer is the worst PM ever apparently simply because he doesn't do what these extreme and vocal camps want.

If we had an election today then Starmer would still get 8-10m votes but he wouldn't win an election. His problem is to win anything he has to win one of those two factions above as well but that isn't going to happen.

The Tories have it exactly the same, Badenoch is polling virtually the same as Starmer and the Tories lost council seats through the same mechanism as Labour whether it was to Reform or the Lib Dems. Nobody really talks about that but then the Tories aren't in government.

He is a weasel so nothing would surprise me. Starmer has given him an off ramp with his “full confidence” briefing.
