Kelechi Iheanacho

He's been woeful two weeks in a row and I suspect that Manuel was justified in playing him selectively. Obviously, he needs to play to get experience but getting the balance right is not easy. I would not have started him - evidence on Twitter - but he did score early; however he also cost us a goal. Rawer than a steak tartare.

He was not 'woeful' and certainly didn't 'cost us a goal'

What is it with people? Not my any reasonable measure can you say he was 'woeful'. Not one! He might nat have been brilliant, but to say woeful is grossly overstating a reasonable performance for a player in his first season

As for 'costing us a goal'. Yeah, he made a poor pass but maybe if the very experienced Argentinian international not chopped the player down for no apparent reason(well there is a reason but that is for another thread) they wouldn't have had the free kick to deflect off the wall

Ianacheo was ok, and scored. Thier goal was a fluke but Otemendi was the main culprit if you want to start pointing fingers

One of the rare occasions where Mr Samuel talks shit given his goals per minute and conversion stats.

that said, he was crap again today but he is a kid, just a kid and we all know his potential is through the roof.
Honestly 14 goals in his first season in a handful of starts. There are plenty of strikers out there who need to be more clinical! I rate Samuel generally but yet again I despair at the media.

Really? One there was Mangala's terrible initial ball into a tight area, then a shitty pass by Iheanacho, then a slide that actually missed the opponent for a dive (and even if it was an actual foul, his action was simply an attempt to end a dangerous give away.) Then there was a freekick deflection. In all this you conclude the error lay with the guy who tried to tackle? Lawd!!!!

For all Manuel's failings I think he's handled this lad excellently. He's going to be a class player but can't just be chucked into tough games week in week out.

Agree completely mate and its the reason why a few on here have said, slowly slowly all season with regards to him.

Like all players, he will have crap games and he has just had 2 on the trot, albeit he got the ll important goal today but it became almost gospel on here this season that he was the second coming of Christ and had he played every game we would have won 5-0 which of course was pie in the sky.

We have one of the brightest talents in world football who will learn how to play the game under Pep and we have to be patient.

He is blessed with great natural ability but he has to learn how to use it and it will take time.

Lawd??? Come off it there was plenty of time to deal with this, it should have been delt with, instead Ota lunged in again and went to ground again! One misplaced pass and he's woeful? Did you watch the game and the amount times other people were giving the ball away?

I said their goal was a fluke but, if I had to blame anyone, yeah I would say Otemendi should not hav slid in

Yes, and I blame those folks for giving it away. Not the guy who tried to defend it.

Most of the time it's our centre backs giving the ball away or roaming off the defensive line when there's simply no need to put us in danger like that. Or are you saying we are defending a single misplaced pass? There's no confusion there it was his mistake but it could and should have been dealt with there's no way that should be directly leading to a goal he's not the last man... one mistake and he's woeful is the point we are trying to get across to you is absurd.

But Nacho should have given it away?

Again, he made a mistake, like all young players. I would expect the more experienced ones such as Otemendi not to make errors such as diving in(not limited to the goal or this game)

His pass completion was 70% today, which is well below the standards he needs to achieve to propser under Pep. He had six shots and four missed the target, badly by my reckoning and in some cases he may have been better passing but I have not seen any video replays so I have to go with just what I saw at the game. Maybe it won't look so bad when I get to watch a recording of the game.

Yes. And I blame them for giving it away. I don't jump forward to blame the attacking player who may or may not have been open.

I don't even know what point you are trying to make or why you think anyone is doing that.

His biggest issue today was having to play alongside Kun who was interested in only himself and his quest for the golden boot.

I'm actually getting pissed off with Kun, as magnificent as he can be and his selfish play.

Early in the game Kelechi didn't play him in and boy did Kun let him know and it clearly affected the lad imo.

Yes you should defo watch it again especially his interchanging with De Bruyne and Aguero some very promising passages of play with him in the thick of it... made some mistakes sure enough(nobodies saying he was brilliant today) but far from "woeful" got our only goal was involved in most of our best chances I think that says it all.

Yes, I could forgive his error because he is young. But this doesn't make the error any less his, and anymore someone else's. It's still his error, even if it is understandable. Ota slid in to attempt a tackle. He failed, bit the error of continuing to put us under pressure was Kelechi's

some of the comments on this thread are shocking and depressing. getting on a a 19 year old who has frankly smashed it this season and criticising him because he has made the odd mistake therefore suggesting we should loan him out or just not place faith in him. hes been awesome this season and exceeded all expectations from this time 12 months ago. his sccoring record is incredible for such a young lad an the quality of his finishes is that of a natural born goal scorer.

fucking glad some of you lot dont pick the team.
