Kevin De Bruyne 2016/17

He looked listless from the start-whether it was the heat I don't know but he needs to get fitter and shift some pounds.

Absolutely diabolical tonight. I mean really really insipid.

There's a lot of people look back at his season through ginger-tinted spectacles. He hit some great form when he came back from injury and people assumed he'd been like that all season.

Nonesense.

He's been inconsistent. When on form he's showed flashes of absolute brilliance. Usually against teams that allow him loads of space, and leave space in behind for him to hit early balls or drive in to space. But he's had plenty of completely anonymous games, most of which have been discussed at length earlier in the thread.

The problem he's got is when teams don't give him space, they don't leave space in behind, he's completely ineffective, like tonight. He hides, he doesn't show for the ball, he's not brave enough to demand the ball to feet in tight spaces. If he wants to play as a number 10 against a decent side they're not just going to allow him to hit an early ball over the top of them, he's going to have to figure out another more subtle, cuter way.

And then when we are out of possession he's a complete liability. If Yaya had allowed his runner go as easily as DeBruyne did on their goal he would get absolutely hammered on here. But DeBruyne is the new kiddies fave so he apparently doesn't have to put in a shift.

Silva has been injured this season and has struggled for form and fitness. But in the 5 years I've been watching him I've never seen him hide. He'll still demand the ball, show feet, get on the half turn, try and create something. He'll work hard for the team, he'll always do his best. He's a very brave footballer, particularly when we have the ball. De Bruyne shit himself tonight. He bottled it.

Excellent post. I originally thought he was world class, albeit a little bit inconsistent, but now after seeing his pitiful displays in both legs against quality opposition I'm wondering if Mourinho maybe spotted the things you've highlighted? I hope I'm wrong but he's looking to be a flat track bully.

I'd agree on the gloss that was put on his season and he has been inconsistent but then so has everyone else so like Sterling I'd allow for new team/new league and cut him some slack. You are bang on about Silva. Gets stuck in and doesn't hide. Big miss for us even in current form.

He's tried his best, but the whole of MC should be ashamed..Did you watch Bayern against Athl M? Most of you probably did...That was a game...Intensity, motivation, perseverance. And this topic, please be honest, it does sickens be me a bit...De Bruyne is the reason you played the semi-finals (REMEMBER...). Honor him, it would be VERY appropriate

Fuckin shithouse ov a "performance" along wiv most ov the others it has to be said, but for £54m id expect a dominant midfielder not one who goes hiding & bottles gettin stuck in

Who do we replace him with? Silva on painkillers? Sterling? Navas? Fernando? Toure? Yes he's had a few bad and anonymous games but so's the entire team. He's had a good (not great) season giving us plenty of goals and assists. For a 24 year old in his first Premiership season in an underperforming team and clueless manager, not fucking bad. He'll be even better next year, CL or not. Keep the faith Blues.

should always play as the number ten behind the striker, anywhere else and you limit his abilities.

he is not a winger and what yaya has done to deserve starting over him in last nights game is beyond me.

yaya has been great for city but our best number ten now is de bruyne.
