Kevin De Bruyne 2016/17

In fairness I've got myself to blame, why did I even bother clicking on the thread??

You knew it would be bad but just could not believe it without seeing it yourself (well that was my reason).
A bit like watching those spot bursting vids when it declares "volcano erupts" xD

I shall now join you in avoiding the thread and most likely anything outside of off topic.

Pellers took over an hour to realise the only chance we had of scoring was having Kev in the no.10 role and gave him about 4 mins there before bringing Kelechi on and shoving De Bruyne back out wide. He's half the player out wide, continuing to play him there is just one of Pellegrini's many decisions that I will never hope to understand.

I don't understand all the negativity towards kev, he didn't have his best game today but neither did 5 or 6 other players? He's been one of the best players on this team this year when healthy
Not one of, he is the best player on the team.

When Yaya was in the middle he didn't do shit with the ball. Kev was isolated on the wings. Which is why he just went against the formation and drifted to the middle. As bad as he is last night, our only real chance (Dinho) came from his contribution.

Playing him in the correct position would be a start. The ball didn't reach that high up the pitch tonight
Correct ..if we had a LW fit and if kdb would have played behind the striker .. Maybe we would have looked dangerous .. Now m not suggesting that gaffer went wrong tactically , but then I love it when kdb plays behind kun .. Maybe coz it was away to real that we opted for a 3 man midfield of yaya dinho nando ..or maybe coz sterling , our costliest British buy could not convince the gaffer that he can take charge of wings and get kdb to playmaking role ..whatever it was ..time to move ..but the lesson we learnt is that kdb is wasted on wings .. He is a playmaker ..

It blows my mind that people are having a go at a midfielder who has scored 15 times this year despite missing 2 months (which were the months in which City lost the league)

We paid the big bucks to take us to the next level. When it mattered he went hiding. Really disappointed with his performance tonight, probably more than anybody else out there.

Some insane knee-jerk reactions on here, but this one takes the cake.

When it mattered, he went hiding? I guess both legs of the quarter-finals didn't matter then? We only had the opportunity to even play last night thanks to KDB. Further, it's thanks to him we have any silverware at all this season.

Yes and you know he was playing to apiece himself to look good on the fans

I haven't the foggiest what you're going on about mate, all I said is he had a mare and mentioned he doesn't seem to like playing on the wing.

What exactly have I said wrong?

I don't think he went hiding last night, but he was probably a bit nervous and not careful enough with his passing. Almost every time he got the ball he wanted to try some ambitious passes. This is his strength but also his weakness. Had it paid off people will probably ignore that and go on to praise his performance (e.g. PSG 1st leg), but last night when our midfield couldn't string enough passes together, he needed to play some safer passes to lessen the strain on the midfield. This is not to say he should always choose the safe option, but more reasonable risk taking is required in matches like that.

I don't think he had faith in the system: either that he would get the ball in the right places, or that people were going to make good runs. When you don#t trust in a system, unless you have a manager telling you to believe, to be patient, etc, you are going to try increasingly risky things that (probably) won't come off...
