Argued by who exactly? What an utterly ridiculous statement.
You again allude to us being a better side without him yet you've already stated that that isn't the premise of your argument. When you talk about the first 4 games, you negate many factors that go into that. One main one being that we had a fit David Silva, a player that I believe is the best CAM in the world. Losing that has been detrimental to us.
And of course it would depend on the game, especially if we have 2 world class number #10's.
Mate, it's not argued by anyone, I was taking the piss.
I happen to agree with you that David Silva is the best CAM / number 10 in the world.
He has shown an incredible level of consistency in the last 5 years, often playing out of position. When he's on song, City are on song. His two best seasons have coincided with us winning the league on both occasions. His worst season has coincided with us being in a battle for 4th. It's not a coincidence.
He's our most important player. He knits the team together, he gives us a structure to our play. We were absolutely crying out for him in Madrid. The amount of times we had possession of the ball at the back or in midfield and had no option for a forward pass was alarming. No one showing feet, no one creating an angle, creating space. DeBruyne was hiding and avoiding the ball at all costs, and when he did get it he invariably did fuck all with it.
That simply doesn't happen when Silva plays. He always wants the ball, shows feet, demands the ball, links midfield and attack. Often under Pellegrini especially, the pattern to our play is give it to Silva and let him link up play. DeBruyne is nowhere near the same class in that aspect of the game.
That's why all these "DeBruyne is our best number ten, 100%" posts just leave me absolutely baffled.
Either these people are children who play Fantasy Football and only look at goals and assists as being of any relevance, or they are new fans who haven't been watching David Silva play for the last 5 years.
DeBruyne is a fine player, and in some games he might even be preferable to Silva. But to dismiss arguably the best player in our history, the lynchpin of our greatest ever team and say he shouldn't be playing "100%" is short-sighted, spoiled, and a bit embarrassing.
