Kevin De Bruyne 2016/17

Mate, it's not argued by anyone, I was taking the piss.

I happen to agree with you that David Silva is the best CAM / number 10 in the world.

He has shown an incredible level of consistency in the last 5 years, often playing out of position. When he's on song, City are on song. His two best seasons have coincided with us winning the league on both occasions. His worst season has coincided with us being in a battle for 4th. It's not a coincidence.

He's our most important player. He knits the team together, he gives us a structure to our play. We were absolutely crying out for him in Madrid. The amount of times we had possession of the ball at the back or in midfield and had no option for a forward pass was alarming. No one showing feet, no one creating an angle, creating space. DeBruyne was hiding and avoiding the ball at all costs, and when he did get it he invariably did fuck all with it.

That simply doesn't happen when Silva plays. He always wants the ball, shows feet, demands the ball, links midfield and attack. Often under Pellegrini especially, the pattern to our play is give it to Silva and let him link up play. DeBruyne is nowhere near the same class in that aspect of the game.

That's why all these "DeBruyne is our best number ten, 100%" posts just leave me absolutely baffled.

Either these people are children who play Fantasy Football and only look at goals and assists as being of any relevance, or they are new fans who haven't been watching David Silva play for the last 5 years.

DeBruyne is a fine player, and in some games he might even be preferable to Silva. But to dismiss arguably the best player in our history, the lynchpin of our greatest ever team and say he shouldn't be playing "100%" is short-sighted, spoiled, and a bit embarrassing.

Well I would say KDB is our best number 10 right now. We don't know if Silva will ever get back to the standard he was. We've missed Silva this entire campaign. I remember him returning against WBA and couldn't help but think that he was a shadow of his former self. Many labelled it rust but it looked like something more.

Also, a point of note, KDB covered more distance than any player during the second leg in the first half. I don't think he was shying away, just couldn't get into the game.

It looks like Silva is declining-but it may be the injuries. It would be great too that zip and energy back in his game. There is room for both in the team, KDB needs to get himself fitter to become the player he is truly capable of being-he is a wonderful talent.

Unless he's an epic bottler who just couldn't deal with the pressure of the occasion on Wednesday (I don't think he is, he played great against Everton and PSG when the heat was on us, he played pretty well in the World Cup and I certainly never saw him hide) or he was either sick or totally unfit on Wednesday imo.

Anybody can have a bad game and KDB has had a few this season but even within those, there were still moments of quality and that bit of swagger that we know he can produce, or he was trying things that just didn't come off on the day.
However on Wednesday the performance was so lifeless, insipid and inept it was hard to believe your eyes. There were times when he dwelt on the ball so long it looked like he was wanting it taken off him, misplacing the most simple square passes he can make with his eyes shut, if he'd been trying to throw the game he couldn't have done much more !

I'm looking forward to getting the real KDB back soon and hopefully we never see that ghost of him again ...

I think it is a valid point unless you can dispuite that. KDB had an intense manager before at Chelsea and it didn't work out. Obviously the situation will be different but who knows how they will get along.

And the eye-gouger strangles all the flair out his creative players.

The Portuguese twat is a completely different type of manager to Pep.

Of course they are but both are winners, are intense and demand a lot from their players. How do you think Pep will react when KDB does a sloppy pass? KDB has to be mentally strong because if he isn't, it may not be a great relationship.
