He put three on a plate.
He didn't create 5 clear cut chances mate. He created one very good chance with the cross for Origi and he played a great ball in to Lukaku's feet about 40 yards from goal, it wasn't really a clear cut chance.
I'm not criticising him for not being Superman. I'm just illustrating the point that he's inconsistent. Whenever he has a good game, this thread goes up by 10 pages with people saying "It's absolutely laughable that you could ever doubt DeBruyne" and that "He's the first name on the team sheet, ship Silva out". It's those posters who are assuming he's Superman.
I think he's inconsistent. Capable of brilliance, capable of being anonymous. It's dangerous to "build the team" around a player like that. If you're building the team around any player, they have to be at it every week, playing at a really high standard, dragging the team up to his level.
I wasn't expecting anything superhuman from him last night. I just want him to not give the ball away cheaply, to get more involved in general play and not hide away, and to maintain energy and fitness over a full 90 minutes. Nothing Super, just an improvement on the basics.
@BlueAnorak Also the MEN called him "anonymous" and his own coach said he was way below par, so your assertion that my original post was "so far removed from reality it's untrue" was possibly a bit misguided.
Johanthan Pearce, Martin Keown, Richard Dunne, the M.E.N and Marc Wilmots all have the same view as me.
I've not seen anyone other than partizan City fans saying he had a great game.

He definitely didn't have a good game by his own high standards. He just didn't ever really get into the game, his passing was generally poor and he didn't do anything with the ball. One poor pass was rightly jumped upon by Henry at half time though - Lukaku made an appalling run behind the defender rather than making the sensible run and giving De Bruyne an easier ball to play. Despite being poor De Bruyne still put in two excellent crosses that Belgium should have scored from. One was almost identical to Iniesta's against the Czech Rep that Pique scored from, an inswinger put right on Origi's head.
The Belgian system looked awful, no one seemed to know their place in the side, Hazard got on the ball and wanted to make something happen but he didn't have full backs overlapping and didn't really have much in the middle. They'll be much better with Fellaini out of the side. Should play Kev as no.10 with Carrasco wide in a fluid three with Hazard behind the striker.
I thought Italy were excellent though, for a side that on paper doesn't look the best, they were well organised and well balanced and defensively kept Belgium where they wanted them for most of the time. Not getting carried away about Italy though, that was a poor Belgian performance and yet they still should have scored a couple of times.

Hey, I'm not saying he had a great game either.
But...
He was the best Belgian player on the pitch.
Belgium should have scored two goals from his passes/crosses, could have scored 2 others with a bit of luck. and 3 of the Italian yellow cards occurred as a result of his passes too.
I'd like him to be Superman but he isn't.
The Belgian manager has to take the blame for what happened last night - not KDB!
