sad day for south african cricket :(
So England have sacked him...... Does this now man that he can wait a year or two and turn out for South Africa?

The official rule is he must wait six months and get a cover up for his England tatt with a picture of Nelson Mandela and an estimate of how much money he may or may not have left in his will, underneath.

Corks just said on talksport that K.P squared upto Cook in the pavilion in Sydney and it was the end then.

I think it was always the case that things were less than rosy behind closed doors mate, and KP has divided the dressing room for a while now.
If matters came to a head in this way, then really the authorities were left with little choice, as no individual should ever be more important than the team.
Shame really, as he was a naturally gifted if flawed talent who was always worth watching.
Loved Sir Geoffrey's comment that Pietersen could often be stubborn, selfish and wasn't a team player.
A case of pot/kettle/black if ever there was one.

Wasn't Cook one of the driving forces in getting Pietersen back ''in the fold'' a few years back? If the Sydney rumours are true, it says it all about Pietersen's character.

Shame that it has had to end this way.

KP is a driven individual who does put himself first, but when doing that it is also a benefit to the team. A core of players have never liked him. He was the last proper remnant of the Vaughan era - which was a team full of mavericks, Flintoff, Vaughan, Tescothick, Jones, Harmy - all these guys played their own natural games and were allowed to express themselves and were not vilified if they failed. It's a shame injuries hit them hard (esp Vaughan) after the 2005 Ashes. we may have seen further greatness from that team.

The new set up with Flower/Strauss and now Cook was all about discipline, to curb ones natural instincts yadda, yadda yadda. In a way they have tried to suffocate natural talent.

They have basically sent KP on his way on the field and in the dressing room - sticking him on the boundary or literally not involving him in any meetings etc.

The best way (in my opinion) would have been to give him responsibility (vice captain) that way you have him involved and thinking how to improve.

This England team has forgot how to score big over the last 3 years, they have relied heavily on the bowlers to get them out of trouble.

Good luck to KP - Love to see him at Lancs - (fat chance of that happening with Moores, Anderson et al)

It can probably be taken as fact that Pieterson is a difficult bloke to integrate into a team. But then again so were many of the great sportsman in history.

If the people who get paid to decide what's best for English cricket genuinely believe the team will be better without him, that's their call. I do hope that is their reason though.

The thing that annoys me slightly is they are taking the supporters for a bunch of mugs really with this bullshit statement.

They are dropping him not because of his cricket abilities but because they think he's a ****. Why can't they have the balls to admit that?

In fact I would even be prepared to buy The Daily Telegraph for once in my life if the headline was, " Downton explains why he thinks Pieterson is a ****."

'He is young, good-looking, a millionaire, a naturally gifted batsman, has shagged a Pussycat Doll and is married to that fit blonde out of Liberty X, whereas I was just an average wicket keeper who couldn't bat who knocked one out to the kind of girls Pietersen boned and disowned for fun, and I'm glad he's gone', said a very bitter and resentful Paul Downton.
