Clichy would appear to be better defensively. But he's not without his shortcomings. He was responsable for Porto's goal. Didn't track his man. Kolarov gets a bad press on here. But he brings more to the table than Clichy, with his crossing. As good as any in the league.( including that tosspot from the Spuds.) And his deadball kicks are better than most. Going back to yesterday, our third goal, was as good as it gets. The cross and header by Dzeko were sublime. So yes while it's a close call, if I could only have one it would probably be Kolarov. With Zabba as backup.

Thought both full backs were great, yesterday!

I guess with the 'bombing-on' type full-backery we employ, they need to cover some ground; and a disproportionate amount of running at full speed. Hence, the need to rotate them more frequently and have strong back-up, which we have!

Yesterday, I was actually thinking how much Zabba has imroved over the years. Whilst lacking Micah's blistering pace, he has a lot more to his game than just 'uncompromising' tackles, now. At one time, when he made a challenge you just prayed that the card was yellow. Not now, he plays with greater composure and stays on his feet much more. His touch and vision have also improved. Still a fooking warrior, though!

I'm a fan of both players and they bring different qualities to the team, so either/or dependng on the opposition.

From a purely defensive viewpoint I would say Zabaleta is our best left back.

I think we're well covered in this position.

Clichy all day for me, saw Kolarov's leg off stitch it onto Clichys then he's complete! our new Free-Kick taker! :)

Clichy against the top 8 and kolarov against the rest, we don't need to defend much against the the worse teams and a better delivery is needed, which kolarov has.
 
Is Kolarov the best ?

In the prem can anybody think of player who can deliver the ball into the box better than Kolarov? I can't! Such a shame he can't improve his defending!

Baines has an excellent cross and had been high on assist charts until Everton decided employing decent strikers was no longer necessary. Valencia and Mata have great crosses too.
