Kolarov take a bow.

I love the "Kolarov can't defend" rubbish. Because when you ask people to provide evidence, they usually can't.

Kolarov looks vulnerable when we're being counter-attacked due to his lack of pace (compared to wingers). I think he had an absolute shocker Napoli away, where Hart bailed him out a few times. But he's only going to improve.

In his debut vs Tottenham he was really impressive defensively. He made a vital block and prevented Lennon from causing trouble (His only successful cross came when Touré was marking him). Now if he was really impressive defensively a whole two years ago, I'm sure there's nothing to worry about now.

Bit of perspective required, just like it is when Kolarov plays badly.

He will have great games in which his influence is stunning, where his dead ball ability helps us on our way to victory and his crossing is a joy to behold, and we all purr with delight at that sweet left foot of his.

However, there will also be matches when that impressive left boot swings off target, and those raking cross field passes go straight to an opponent and we all groan and moan at how bad he is. The thing about Clichy is that he is a reliable, consistent performer. Kolarov is more spectacular, but less reliable.

I like Kolarov, and when we retain possession the way we do at our best then the full backs aren't really required to defend particularly well. The top teams in the world often have full backs who bomb forward brilliantly but are susceptible defensively.

I for one celebrate the fact we have two excellent left backs who can be used for different types of games and tactical set-ups.

This +10000

Kolarov is something like our Roberto Carlos : a great attacking threat but a liability in defense.

He looks fitter than ever, too. Built like a brick shithouse but with the left boot of a monster. Love him.

And this is the key, is it not? We are fortunate to have two left-backs of the caliber of Clichy and Kolarov.

Honestly, I think we need Phil Jones too. World beater, that kid. We can have our consistent player in Cliche, our attacker in Kolarov, and our useless dumbfuck in Phil Jones. Every team needs a dumbfuck.

Based on recent evidence, both on and off the pitch, I suspect that Camelgob Rio himself is close to giving useless P. Jones a run for his money. By the way, 16 million for Phil Jones? And the media crucifies us for some of our purchases? Unbelievable. He has all the physical grace of a hobbled caribou.

Villa ?

Every single time he plays against a decent wide player, he gets left for dead. Literally every single time. Johnson offered nothing to test him. Valencia or similar just run away from him as if he's not there.

If he can solve that, I'll be delighted, as he brings a lot with his free kicks but I watched him v Villa & people just walked past him by the end.

He was terrible defensively last season.
