Kolarov take a bow.

So sure of yourself when obviously talking through your arse.

Do you rate Kolarov as a good enough left back to play for a team challenging for the Champions league?

But we're not evaluating based solely on this season. The players you mention have been generally superb and the backbone of our success,as for Kolarov.......

Sorry I thought the OP was discussing the improvement in Kolorov over the course of this season. Where in response others are stating how rubbish he has been over the last few years.

Kolorov this year isnt getting the credit for his performances because the team is struggling. If for example we have four points on the board and Kolorov had scored the winner at Real peoples reaction maybe a little different. Maybe come Febuary he will be out of form and criticism will be fair.

The OP is taking the piss because he,like anyone with average vision, can see he is shite.

Mancini doesnt have average vision then or Mourinho who also rated him. What about the Serbian manager who have given him a number of caps or the Lazio manager who signed him.

A fair argument would be he lacks a yard of pace, positionally he switches off. But he is shite. Such a poor argument. The year he won the cup we had the best defensive record in the league with him in the side. Pretty unlikely with a shite left back.

Seemingly a top bloke, has time for everybody, good for morale.

Wonderful left foot on (some crosses) and free-kicks.

Apart from that, can't defend for shit.

Still better than the majority of left-backs we have had in recent years, which isn't really saying much!

He wasn't deployed at left back.

Nor is he shite.

If he isn't shite as a left back, then he is certainly shite as a left winger. Ok shite is harsh - but he's an Albert Riera level winger. Not a Goetze or Reus level, fuck not even a Walcott or Sinclair level. His Happy Gilmore left foot masks a hell of a lot of deficiencies in his game.

That may be true. But some are delivering the good more than others. Aguero, Silva, Tevez, Toure: big money buys who are integral to the core of our team and therefore worth the expense. Nasri, Milner and Kolorov: big money buys who have not come anywhere near justifying their pricetags.

I do agree that some of our good players aren't delivering, but that's a different problem for me.

Personally I think that is more of a reason for Dortmund outplaying us last night than any tactical superiority by Klopp over Mancini. For whatever reason there players looked sharper and quicker and played with much more confidence.

If for example Reus, Gotze and the Polish captain were struggling like our three top players I have no doubt the game would have taken on a completely different pattern.

Klopp failed miserably last season in this competition. A record which would have had you fuming and questioning his tactical intelligence if he was a City manager. Hopefully by the time we play in Dortmund our players will be playing at the height of their capabilities and Dortmund will be struggling with form, as our players are at the moment.

You're so wrong. Reus is their new signing so based on many opinions here he still should need some time. Gotze was injured for a long time and started on the bench almost every Bundesliga match this season. And Kuba didn't play every minute too.

Dortmund and Klopp learned their lesson last season. But improved. We have much more experienced players but Mancini can only say something like 'I know where's the problem' and similar shit.

But what will happen in Amsterdam? They're not Villarreal 2.0. Ajax will play high, will be pressing a lot. I know a lot of people here will be surprised when will see that Ajax is similar to Dortmund. There's a good chance we won't make more than 2 or 3 points in this group. I think some people are blind but our only good match this season was against Fulham and nobody will play so deep, so negative. Maybe some pathetic clubs like Stoke, Norwich or Reading will try this but you can't expect these performances in CL.

Sorry Bapi you missed the point I was making. Your right about Reus etc but the point I was making that the difference between the two sides was the form of the teams respective players not any tactical masterclass. The use of Reus etc as examples was because I thouight they played particularly well last night.

Your right we are not playing well but my point is its due to players form at the minute. Mancini is swapping things around to find a solution which he is criticised for. But equally if the team wasnt firing and he didnt change things he would he would get accused of having no plan B.

Ajax will be a tough game. If we have found our feet and are playing like the team which comfortably dismantled Spurs, United next year we wil overcome them. If we continue to play tentatively and with a lack of confidence we could easily get beaten. The players form will determine the outcome of the match.

P.S Although I accept the use of Rodwell over Milner Barry etc is questionable

Kolarov would be better suited as a left winger rather than left back. There is too much emphasis on a winger being able to turn his man inside out, have pace to burn and cut inside at every opportunity than doing the job a winger is supposed to do. IMO a winger is supposed to hog the touch line and create space for other players and when given a yard of space be able to deliver a good cross and Kolarov can certainly do that. Beckham made a whole successful career out of being an average player with a awesome cross and free kick.

Some people on here consider pace to be the be all and end all of attributes and I think this is what lets England down as a nation is the over reliance on physical attributes. A winger does not need pace of Gareth Bale to be a quality player all they need is a good first touch and good cross.

Doesn't have the pace to be a top left back, look at all the best left backs in the world, Clichy, Cole, Marcelo, Evra, Lahm, Alba. Can't believe we actually spent 18 million on him and whats worse Mancini will still rotate him with Clichy.
