Not my idea of a centre half and has been awful at times but was brilliant yesterday. Well done Kolo. Came up trumps when we really needed him to

No Watson or Doyle?
I'm too young to have seen them(only put Moore in because of the hype.)
We were heavily linked with Zouma and Marquinhos is January. Both young and very promising.ifiwasarichfan said:If we let both Kolo and Lescott go in the Summer it leaves us with;
Vinny - Nastasic - Rekik - Richards.
Firing on all fronts that is at least one short and seeing as we completely messed up the summer Transfer window due to the confusion created by the FFP rules and I cant think of anyone off hand who is both affordable or open to a move we should really keep either Kolo or Lescott.
Have a good look at the Champions League Matches - their really isn't one fantastic world class defender in the entire competition.
As it stands right now I rate Vinny as one of the best 3 or 4 centre backs in the World. In 45 years of watching Football I dont rate Vinny in the top fifty defenders that I have ever seen. That is how low the standard is.
We cant have players like Toure and to a lesser extent Lescott being on 100k plus a week yet only having a minimal role in the squad especially with the upcoming FFP regulations.GerryGowsRusholmeBoy said:I don't get all the speculation on this and other threads about our centre halfs.
I don't think any of them are poor and I think they would all walk into most teams in the premership. Why get rid ?
The spacing of the ages is fantastic (almost deliberate?) Nasty 19 Vinny 26 Lescott 30 Kolo 32. I don't believe Lescott wants to leave, I think they all know they will get game time and that they are happy to be here. I would think that Kolo should get an extra year and that next year we bring in a 22/23 year old. (look at the gap at the swamp 2 x 32/33 and 2 x 22/23 with just evans in between)
All the shit from the press earlier in the season (and on here) that the defece is no good but it's still the best in the league and now we have four centre halves used to playing with each other (and two full backs able to play in a three)
- why break it up ?
Christ even the midfield is showing signs of promise with variations.
Anyway, agree entirely with the op - awesome judgement yesterday - particularly on their breakaway.

Although Lescott is better than Kolo, Kolo is a born leader. Toure does not shy away from responsibility and looks like a much calmer influence on the younger players than Lescott.

What a pile of tosh!
Lescott always looks calm and in control and takes responsibility if and when the situation demands.
At least you concede that JoLo is better than Kolo. And surely the most important thing is to have the best players possible?

We will have to disagree then.
Lescott is solid and reliable but will never be anything more than a solid defender because of his lack of leadership. He is solid when he plays with another solid defender (Vinny or Jagielka) but looks lost when playing as the main CB.
Our first choice CB pairing IMO would be Vinny and Nasty. If Nasty is injured then it would be Vinny and Lescott. And if Vinny is injured then it would be Nasty and Kolo.

That's because you've gone for a left/right combination in every case!
But when Lescott has been the senior centre-back, has he been found wanting?
Even when playing with Nasty, he has shown leadership and taken his rôle as the senior CB seriously.
I have come to the conclusion that you are one of the Lescott haters, no matter what he does.
