Kolo Toure [Merged]

Only reason I am not worried about giving Wenger 40m is that he will probably spend it on Huntelaar or the other french striker I can't recall. Either way a step down in quality from Ade and a job well done by our board. If he goes for Hangeland though that will be disappointing, I think he is a great CB. AW's spending style over time seems to show he will probably sit on most of the money from the transfers anyway.

huntelaar is dutch aint he?

not liking the 16m price tag as hes in his last year but hes a decent player.
Some sources are quoting £14 Million, but either way it's good value, as was the Adebayor signing

These are top quality players who Arsenal will not easily be able to replace for the transfer fee. Maybe Wenger has identified players already at the club who can step into their shoes,or maybe he has other irons in the transfer market.

There is absolutely no doubting the ambition of MCFC. I'm still finding it difficult to believe that we are signing players of this calibre when a couple of seasons ago we were really struggling. Commentators are already making a great deal about the monies spent, and it is remarkable. But I wouldn't say we have over-paid for any of the signings this Summer.

He is but I remember AW was interested in a striker, Chamakh or something?

He means the Moroccan Marouane Chamakh

what a signing this will be. great defender who gets his share of goals too and has a winning mentality.very popular in the dressing room at arsenal apparently.
great player toure, great attitude as well. captain material. will be made up if this signing comes off which now looks likely. lovely.

When you think about the players that Hughes has signed recently:

De Jong, Given, Bellamy, Toure, Barry, Tevez they are all leaders and Captain material.

However need to gel these players very rapidly into a team. That's a big job, and wont happen overnight. No point expecting patience

What happened to the critics who said Hughes wouldn't be able to sign big name players?

they are the ones going on about us having 8 strikers. They just find ways to have a dig at us

Having a lanky streak of piss for a CB will help in certain situations ie: playing Stoke etc, but I think the modern game has moved on somewhat from the 'Plan A, B, C & D' up and at em approach that besmirched top level football in this country for years.

Toure is a footballing CB and as long as we are organised at the back and our CB's are concentrating on when to run, when to jump and when to tackle, I think Toure's height or perceived lack of it won't be a major concern for us defensively. This argument is 'size-ism' at its worst; I mean I'm a 6-footer and the issue over Toure's lack of height is making me develop a complex here!!! Richards can leap like Jumping Jack Flash when he's ready, but look how many times he lost concentration & mis-timed his jump thus being beaten to the ball!

If we land Toure and we can get Lescott I would say that we still need 3 more players. I still think we need a better right-back than our current options and if Elano goes, we need a creative replacement with markedly better stamina than the Brazillian and I think we still need a proper defensive-midfield lynchpin as I'm not convinced by De Jong or Zabaleta and I think Kompany's long-term future woud be best served as a CB.

As for what we do with Richards, Dunne & Ned, if I was Hughes I'd cross that bridge when I came to it.
