Just hope he doesn't have these type of injuries all season like last we need him fit for the majority of this season

Lescott did his defending brilliantly, but he gave away the ball numerous times in dangerous areas. Better teams would have made more of those mistakes. He's a liability when the ball is at his feet.

And are Cardiff and Hull better teams than Newcastle?

However, I don't agree with your assessment of Lescott.

He had a superb game last night. And it's not just me who thinks that; another poster made him MotM. He is not a liability with the ball at his feet. Did you not see his wing-play in one of our attacks? And what's this about him making numerous mistakes? That's just a load of rubbish. Joleon Lescott is an experienced, high quality defender, who would grace any Premier League squad and we're lucky enough to have him as one of ours.

And Joleon Lescott, he's top of the League!

No no no.

No way was he MOTM, he did well but did gibe the ball away in dangerous area. He only looks safe when he makes shorter passes and appear uncomfortable in possession. Dzeko, Aguero, Navas and Silva were the candidates. Kompany was better and set up Aguero's goal, he was massive for us and helped to dominate the game.

My only problem with Lescott is that, when Kompany is out and he is the senior CB, he doesn't seem to take enough responsibility. When Kompany was suspended or injured and Savic played, Savic was slaughtered for his performances. But I couldn't understand why Savic was always given the job of marking the oppositions's main or only striker. For example, he was the one marking Carroll in the CC semi final, even though Lescott is much bigger and stronger. Its been the same when he's partnered Kolo or Garcia. They get to mark the main striker whilst Joleon seems content to just do the mopping up.

Well our options as I understand them are these :- (listed as I see the preferences)

1) Nasty
2) Micah
3) Boyata
4) Any one of Yaya/Garcia/Rodwell
5) New singning.

We are away at Cardiff to start with all depends whether we want two left footers or right footer with left footer.

Logically Lescott should be as comfortable on the right as he is on the left but from the conversations which have taken place on here that might not be the case. If he stays left then is Nasty comfortable on the right I suspect that one will be down to Pelli during training.

In respect of Micah I thought he was out last week due to a hammy which means he won't be starting against Cardiff unless training suggests otherwise.

As for Boyata he featured during pre season might not have been brilliant but did a job, if Pelle can boost the confidence of Dzeko It is conceivable he could do the same with Boyata.

As for the rest anyones guess.

Who is this Micha? And what's insurance got to do with it?

Oops, my spelling seems to be worse than usual.

Micah and injured I meant obviously... but you got that I think.

BREAKING NEWS: Kompany out for 3-4 weeks
Sportmail's John Edwards with an update:

Manuel Pellegrini's early estimate of a 'one to two week' absence for Vincent Kompany may be on the optimistic side.

After watching footage of how he injured his groin against Newcastle, the Belgium national team's medical staff believe he will be out for between three and four weeks.

Oh...god..

Can't really say i'm surprised .....

between Richards and Kompany half the season must be missed !

To be honest i don't even feel that Kompany even needed to make that tackle the other night ...... wasn't as if the Newcastle player was really going anywhere , he was out wide .... and i'm sure we'd have got cover back.

Manchester City fear that Vincent Kompany will miss the next three Premier League matches owing to a groin injury he suffered in the home win over Newcastle United.

The captain is expected to return for the derby with Manchester United on 22 September and with Matija Nastasic not yet in full training following an ankle injury, Manuel Pellegrini has Joleon Lescott as his only fit senior central defender. The situation may accelerate City's desire to fill the gap, with Real Madrid's Pepe and Atlético Madrid's Martín Demichelis of interest.

Kompany was unable to have a scan on Tuesday owing to swelling so City will not discover the severity of the problem until the test is carried out on Wednesday afternoon. The prognosis is that he could be unavailable for up to a month. This would mean the 27-year-old missing Sunday's trip to Cardiff City, the visit of Hull City to the Etihad Stadium the following Saturday and the trip to Stoke City on 14 September – the first game after Belgium play Scotland during the international break.

The World Cup qualifier is on 6 September in Glasgow and it is understood that the Belgium team's medical department has been in contact with Kompany and the club to ascertain whether he will be available. While this is a match Marc Wilmots's side want to win to ensure their three-point lead over Croatia in Group A is maintained, the manager is anticipating being without Kompany for it.

Kompany's absence represents a significant blow to Pellegrini. Nastasic has been out since injuring an ankle at the Asia Trophy in July and though the manager stated on Friday Nastasic could rejoin training with the first team this week, he has yet to do so. Much depends on how the 20-year-old reacts when he does resume, with Pellegrini concerned about rushing him back.

With Micah Richards out for "weeks" owing to a hamstring injury, Pellegrini may ask the midfielders Gareth Barry and Javi García to play in defence at Cardiff as a temporary option or call on Dedryck Boyata, a central defender who has struggled to establish himself.

Does anyone realistically trust Barry at CB? He's slower than Garcia, but has a great IQ for the game.

i admire your outlook there 'SkyBlueUSA' , but i doubt that most City fans would trust Barry , 'full stop' ... never mind back in defence !

For me it's either Nastasic or Boyata, but will probably be Garcia.
