Kompany injured again...

Been invited to co-present the Player of the Month Award to Vinny at the CSA tomorrow!

I won't be going. A lion deserves to be respected in his true glory. Vinny will be back from this injury and will contribute more still as the greatest captain in our history.

Hopefully, I will get another chance to meet Vinny but as the song goes, "City Loves You more that you will know".

Hindsights a wonderful thing isn't it. Before we kicked off nobody knew how Kiev were going to approach the game and the objective must have been to keep it tight early on and see how the game developed. That's why, in my opinion, both Fernando and Fernandinho played and why Navas started over Sterling, it's why he didn't take a chance and rest Kompany and (again it's my opinion) he hoped Aguero might nick a goal and put it to bed. By the time (probably half-time) it was clear how the game was going we'd lost both our central defenders. Had we not, I think Sterling would have come on earlier and others, maybe Yaya or Aguero wouldn't have played the full 90 minutes. I don't know whether it was Goldstein or Cundy on Talksport who questioned why Sterling didn't start but regardless of which one it was, they're a prick.
Thought you meant it was a city fan who had called up. As you were..
I can see your logic by the way, it's down to personal opinion when all is said and done. He was desperate to see the tie through so understand why he played Kompany but again, having played so often since he came back I'd have looked at keeping him fresh for Sunday.

I assumed on Saturday that Mangala wasn't fit enough to play, because I'd have taken a punt on Otamendi and Mangala then and rested Kompany. Next season it will be interesting to see how Pep manages Kompany, personally I'd invest in (yet another) top class centre back, bring back Denayar, and ship out MDM and whichever one of the other two he doesn't fancy and rotate Kompany in whatever way suits his fitness best. It was definitely Goldsten or Cundy on Talksport but I switched it off when 'Jackie a City fan' came on!

THE PRESENTATION HAS BEEN POSTPONED.

Hopefully Vinny doesn't require an op!

Gutted for the guy. Surely rest is the answer. The muscle isn't repairing properly. Is it the same calf 14 times or different legs? Forget the Euros. Stay away from football till September. Get a complete rest or your career is over and nobody wants that. Get well Vinnie. You must be distraught tonight. Keep your head up. Your only 30.

There's quite a few drastic decisions being made in this thread. We don't need to sell Vinny in the summer at all, we just can't leave ourselves in a position where we absolutely have to rely on him. Even with his injuries he's still good for 20-25 games per season which is absolutely the norm for a back-up centre-half these days. If we were to buy that Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus, a player Pep greatly admires by the way, and demoted Kompany to Demichelis' position in the squad (leaving us with Bonucci, Otamendi, Kompany and Mangala as our four central defenders) I'm sure he'd happily accept that his best days are behind him and stay for the love of the club and a chance to play for Pep. Denayer could slot in as a utility man for the time being and that would be that.

Sagna, Zabaleta, Kompany, Bonucci, Mangala, Otamendi, Clichy, [new LB], Denayer - absolutely fine.

Feel gutted 4 him , genuinely sorry 4 him , really don't know what City as a club can do , u can't have your captain missing half the season , real shame.

If people remember before we brought him he had injury problems ( not calf ) that's why we can't him for 5.5 million ( bargain )

It isn't just the player we miss when Vinny is injured, it is his leadership and organization. he talks the rest of the defence through games. If we are to replace him, it is another leader we need, we have other defenders, but they just look at each other for help and non is forthcoming, so forget the likes of Stones, we have young defenders and he is way overpriced anyway. We would need a calm experienced head to organize and educate our younger guys. Just not as "experienced" as Martin!
