Kompany injured again...

Can't believe people questioning why we played him last night. He is the captain, Leader of the group, One of the best defenders on the planet. Do you think he would want to sit on the bench. He has only played 17 games this season. Judging by how he did it last night, he could have done that walking to the shop getting his morning paper.

Unfortunately for him he has a problem, I don't think his calf can deal with the demands that are being put on him, but I'm no medical expert.

Probably shouldn't have played last night given we basically had a 3 goal advantage, though it was probably just delaying the inevitable anyway, as he just keeps getting injured and it's not from challenges ect, it's the slightest stretch or he might turn a bit too quick and his muscle goes, it's worrying. On top of that it's just negatively impacting the team as we can't put together a settled defence/CB partnership as he is just yo-yoing in and out of the medical room. 18 appearances from a possible 46 is just not good enough.

I mean he is an outstanding player, captain, man and role model but he's becoming unreliable

I am much rather him break down last night rather than in the derby, at least we know where we are and can prepare for it, the key for me is Fernando, e need to ensure he starts and sits in front of the centre halves to offer them protection.

it was idiotic to play best team last night. silva, kompany and aguero should have been rested. It's not hindsight or anything, it's logical thing.
No it was not it was an important game and we had to play our best team nonsense to suggest otherwise. With respect to issue on hand i.e. Vinny it seems that he is breaking down now in training, warm ups at the start of matches and during matches. He is also unable to stay fit for longer than a handful of games and this is holding back the club. The man is a mountain of a legend but MCFC comes first always. Either we find a solution to his problem and hopefully we can) or we start to plan for the future. To pretend otherwise is highly counter productive and I would be very surprised if the new manager does not think along the above lines.

People keep saying he would have pulled up in the derby instead is far to a simplistic way of looking at it. The extra 5 days rest could have been vital, at this level little things like that really can make a difference, I have friends who compete at top level in weightlifting and they will say the same, we have all the sport science technology available at City but we honestly don't use a lot of it. He came back from a bad injury and has been played and played and played, no manager with any sense would have done that in my opinion, he had to be eased back in but Pellegrini never does it, he has done the same with Silva, Aguero etc as soon as they are declared fit they are back in the side (see Bony) and it down to stupidity imo.
Not a medical expert but I assume the manager does talk to the medical team. Also from personal experience I know that calf injuries are notoriously difficult things to deal with. It is a bit like migraine in that you can never be sure when or how there might be an episode. Indeed, while a calf injury is on the surface a fairly superficial injury it can in extreme cases end a career. I fear that Vinny is getting to a stage where it will no longer be able to simply arrange a training regime and a game time schedule because nobody including the man himself will know when he might break down. We face a massive dilemma here guys!!!

It's crazy to suggest that resting Vinny would have made the slightest bit of difference. This wasn't an injury inflicted by a challenge or fatigue. If anybody 'knew' this was going to happen I'd be most grateful if they'd pick my lottery numbers for the weekend.

Pellers can rightfully be blamed for a few things, but this ain't one of 'em.

Agreed. There has to be a trade off between how much rest-time you can give a player to overcome injuries and how much game-time you can get from the player in return. As in most cases, the benefit to the team and club takes precedence over the benefit to the individual player.

Is his 14th calf injury since coming to us according to Swedish TV

And about 10 of them have been in the last 18 months!

He's done in my eyes, this is what happened to Vidic at United and I'll be very surprised if Vinnie is still with us next season. He's a great player and a great captain but holding onto him for sentimental reasons is the worse thing we can do.

It's irrelevant whether Vinny played last night or not there is obviously a serious problem that would have reoccurred anyway, if not last night then 5 minutes into the derby. Resting him last night wasn't going to cure the problem.

I would sooner Vinny play half a derby than Demichalis play a full one.
It's whether you turn left or right out of he door.
IMO it was risk that did not need to be taken.
