Kompany injured again...

Fair play to people if they said it before hand, but too much like hindsight really. Had we conceded early and he not been on the pitch imagine the uproar.
I never expected him not to play.
Silva on the other hand...should have rested him.
I am not in the business of defending Pellegrini generally but I think it's a stretch to blame him for picking Vinny specifically last night. I thought we could perhaps rest Silva and Aguero before kick off seeing as we didn't have to go out looking for goals from the start. Sergio has run himself into the ground recently and Silva definitely looks like he could do with a night off. But you want to keep a settled back four and generally you wouldn't think playing centre back twice a week should be too demanding for a player who has been back for quite a few weeks now.

Yeah, I agree mate. I don't think you can blame him for starting him last night whatsoever!

If the injury is a career ending one ( I sincerely hope not ) we need to keep him at the club, as an ambassador or even a future manager in the post-Pep era. He may not fancy hanging around, but if he does then City should welcome him, imho.

Not even impact injuries. Picking them up doing run-of-the-mill things, has to be the biggest concern?

Tremendous shame. Pep is a ruthless man.

He should be ruthless with the fitness team.

Muscle injuries can largely be prevented. One or two muscle injuries here and then is understandable but many in our team have had them which means the fitness team, whoever they are, need looking at.

I hope they still realise that he has a big role to play even if he cannot kick a ball this season.

Pellegrini is, of course, not going to quit or hand over the reins to him BUT he certainly should elevate him in status to assistant manager unofficially and ensure he gives the team talk on Sunday and thereafter.

As a captain he can still help without being on the pitch.

The team understandably looked deflated after he collapsed on 4 minutes last night and never recovered from the depressive shock. We cannot let this negatively effect them on Sunday so they need him in that dressing room telling them all he will be back next season fighting fit and they have to be sure he will be playing in the next Champions League game he is fit for.

He can galvanise the team or they can feel sorry for themselves. Which happens will determine if City make the top 4 and qualify for 2016-17.

6 games in 20 days for a player with a injury history as bad as vinnys ..?.

My issue is probably playing him every match when he had just come back as opposed to matches a few weeks down the line. I do think there is an overall issue that due to the huge drop off defensively when he is absent that he doesn't get the opportunity to take his time when he comes back but I think it is a bit harsh blaming Pellegrini specifically for picking him last night in a Champions League match where just keeping it tight was the order of the day and that is coming from someone who thinks he is generally making a terrible mess of things. Christ even when I try to give him a break I get grief. ;)

Whilst i don't blamee him directly, I don't think Pellegrini is completely blameless here. I get that this was an important game and you want your captain playing when possible and i know that injury could of happened at any time in any game and i also recognise hindsight is a wonderful thing but everybody I spoke to pre-match was in agreement that we should of rested some of our key players, notably Kun Silva and Kompany and how it will probably come back to bite us. A guy that's been plagued with injuries all season played 6 games in 20 days, we had all 4 centre backs fit, and took a 3-1 lead into the game there couldn't of been a better time to rest him and others than last night.

In all likelihood, playing 6 games in 20 days probably didn't contribute to his injury directly but to play him every game bar Chelsea since his return is bad management in my eyes. He should of been afforded a game or two on the bench, especially when 2 of those games were against the bottom 2 sides in the league.

Pellegrini isn't directly to blame for the injury but playing him as frequently as he did since his return is just yet another example of poor management from our wonderfully charming manager.

I'd imagine that having already missed so many games this season, having realised how inconsistent the team has been in his absence, and having an eye on being fit and ready for the ECs in the summer, Kompany would have put himself forward to play at every opportunity. Not sure whether Pellegrini could step him down in the circumstances.

On Radio 5 they were saying it was Vinnie's 16th such injury whilst at City and both Townsend and Miss Dalglish (especially) were making out that it was all City's fault. Ally McCoist was inputting a little sense into the debate and Townsend had back down. I found this record of Vinnie's injuries which shows the BBC were talking bollocks about the number of injuries at City but also shows various leg injuries to groin hamstring and calf in just over 3 years.
