Re: Coping without Kompany

So will it be Lescott and Demichelis, then? Sounds a bit creaky... I'd be tempted to try to put Nastasic in there for one of them, and pack the midfield... Any better ideas?

Garcia & MDM for me.

Agree. Communication is key. They both speak Spanish and today once Kompany was gone the defence looked coherent. I can't be the only one who noticed Kompany can't speak Spanish nor MDM speak English. How many times we played a clever off side trap was incredible. It must have won us back possession and avoided opposition goal threat at least a dozen times.

From now on we should play today's formation but have Kompany (once he's back) in front of Garcia and MDM. Almost a 3 with Kolorov and Zabaleta bombing on.

People are automatically drawn to the arms and, quite rightly, think, "na, nothing in that", but the foul is Jelavic's studs into Kompany's calf.

A clear free kick to us. The FA should rescind the red tho they probably won't. Just a good job it's only one game so no point appealing and risking more from the inept FA.

Vinnie should still have let him go. He could have caught up with him and even if Jelavic got away have some faith in Hart! Jelavic isn't destined to score, he's no Messi. If he scores we still have 85mins to turn it around.

In the end, today, we didn't need 11 players but this is more an exception than the rule.

They won't rescind that card. Separate the two parts of that incident and look at Vinnie's tackle in isolation. It is a red card offence; Jelavic had a clear run on goal. The fact that Vinnie was undoubtedly fouled immediately before become irrelevant once the offence isn't blown up by the ref. Mason didn't give the foul (wrongly, but there you go), therefore play continues on.

Is that even Kompany's account? this is very dodgy ground for players to tread and the FA will be keen to punish as he's a City player

Wouldn't surprise me. Stupid of him to put that on.

Why? He doesn't offer his opinion on the decision and just re-posts the video of the incident, if the FA have faith in the decision of their referee then all they'll see the post as is a reinforcement of the fact Mason made the correct call (from their viewpoint)
My feelings too.

It was a foul. He pushed him over which is why he was scrambling to get back to position which caused him to foul him. Dicked on by the refs yet again. I believe Nasti is close to fitness now so hopefully he can fill in for the game ban.

Did anyone else notice what seemed to be an obscene gesture of the left hand from Kompany just before he kicked the stadium wall?

Stupid thing is that we can't appeal the foul by Kompany because it pretty much is a red but the foul before is what caused it but that's no argument because the referee didn't give a foul. I don't know if they can still do it but I wouldn't risk appealing only to be given an extra game which is scum away.

It's a foul by jelavic. So obvious! Ref made a mistake and it should be rescinded.
People keep coming out with this but it has no bearing unfortunately. The only thing an appeal would consider is did the referee get the sending off decision right. Unfortunately he did and nothing that went on before will be taken into account.

I'll get slated for this but it was a poor decision by Vinny to drag him back, yes it should have been a foul but it wasn't given. He would have had ample time to track back and we'd still have 11 men on the pitch. He can be forgiven though given the amount of times he has saved us.
I think his reaction was the same as when a player gets fouled and grabs hold of the ball. It usually forces the ref to give the foul because otherwise he has to give a free kick for handling, which seems grossly unfair. Vinnie probably assumed there was no way a ref would give the foul against him AND send him off when he'd clearly been fouled in the first place.

Vincent Kompany, meet Lee Mason...
