Whilst you could argue that it's prudent for an elite premier league club to sign two full-backs with excellent physical attributes, I am rather surprised that Pep has targeted both Walker and Mendy this window. My main concern is that they might turn out to be incongruous in a team that places great emphasis on possession-based football. Furthermore, I am not convinced they are particularly strong defenders, thus again it could be perceived as a weakness in our side by opposing sides.

But Alves didn't want to come to us, that is irrelevant? We can't but someone who doesn't want to play for us, move on
 
Let's not sugar coat it, we needed a right back and he's English but this is far from a good price and one we will get stick for much like the Stones situation. I just hope he puts all the "TTID" shit to bed and gives his all for us, he better earn it now.

I also think this will fuck up our other transfers, we should have left this till last and got Bertrand and Mendy in first that way Levy would be left to ponder how much we really need to fill the HG quota. Instead their agents and clubs will look at how Levy took our trousers down at the negotiation table and got everything he wanted and believe they can do the same.
 
At the end of last season I thought we would go for very technical, quick fullbacks above all else.

In hindsight I like the idea of sacrificing a bit of that technical ability for the physicality (pace, power, stamina and height) because we've been vulnerable for a good few years in those respects. We've got enough technical ability in other areas to more than compensate but we haven't got many players really with the mix of physicality of Walker and Mendy.

Teams are going to be fucking terrified of us next season, with Walker/Sterling on one side and Mendy/Sane on the other.
