Kyle Walker

I am somewhat disappointed as, in my view, Alves is still the superior player of the two even now at the age of 34.

Even though it's hard to refute that £50m is far too much for a player of Walker's ability, he should add another dimension to our attack next season.

Whilst you could argue that it's prudent for an elite premier league club to sign two full-backs with excellent physical attributes, I am rather surprised that Pep has targeted both Walker and Mendy this window. My main concern is that they might turn out to be incongruous in a team that places great emphasis on possession-based football. Furthermore, I am not convinced they are particularly strong defenders, thus again it could be perceived as a weakness in our side by opposing sides.
But Alves didn't want to come to us, that is irrelevant? We can't but someone who doesn't want to play for us, move on

Let's not sugar coat it, we needed a right back and he's English but this is far from a good price and one we will get stick for much like the Stones situation. I just hope he puts all the "TTID" shit to bed and gives his all for us, he better earn it now.

I also think this will fuck up our other transfers, we should have left this till last and got Bertrand and Mendy in first that way Levy would be left to ponder how much we really need to fill the HG quota. Instead their agents and clubs will look at how Levy took our trousers down at the negotiation table and got everything he wanted and believe they can do the same.

At the end of last season I thought we would go for very technical, quick fullbacks above all else.

In hindsight I like the idea of sacrificing a bit of that technical ability for the physicality (pace, power, stamina and height) because we've been vulnerable for a good few years in those respects. We've got enough technical ability in other areas to more than compensate but we haven't got many players really with the mix of physicality of Walker and Mendy.

Arriving in Manchester later tonight. Medical first thing in the morning.

Not really exciting info as you all could've guessed it, but aye.

Teams are going to be fucking terrified of us next season, with Walker/Sterling on one side and Mendy/Sane on the other.

Bring it on.

Very happy with this. I know some think the money is mad but , English, still in his prime & on a long contract = 50 mill at least in this market. Job done great stuff from Cheeky n Pep! We need the HG quota bang on to fill the foreign slots .. so NEXT!
Mendy, Bertrand, and possibly Sanchez. Did we ever find out who the mystery CB was?

He plays higher up the right several times when Dier goes in RB, Walker takes the DMR position next to Wanyama who played CM.

I watch a lot of Spurs because I think they're probably the best footballing team besides ourselves in the league and I've never seen that, certainly not planned in the way we occasionally move fullbacks into central midfield.

There's odd occasions in every game when you'll even get the likes of Aguero at right back for example but it doesn't mean that he can play there.

Walker has never played centrally in midfield for more than a couple of seconds while dropping in to cover whoever (usually Dier or Wanyama) who has had to cover his position when he bombs forward. Right wingback yes but central midfield definitely not.

Arguably the best RB in the league at the moment, Walker for £50m including addons is not overpriced at all. Considering Lukaku ia £90m, Walker at £50m is the right price if not a bit undervalued. What we are getting for £50m:

  • Homegrown
  • Young
  • Pace
  • Physical and aerial strength
  • Fast crosses
  • Part of team with lowest goal conceded
  • Can play DM
  • Weakens our rival spurs who finished above us last season (assuming the replacement is a downgrade)
I have a feeling he will be crucial in both attacking and defending.

Don't know why we're comparing them in the first place given one is a fullback and the other is a striker but seeing as we are, we can't use the lowest figure for walker and the highest figure with add on's for Lukaku to make it sound better. The fee going around is £55 million + add on's and seeing as we don't know how much the add on's are worth we can only compare it to the £75 million base figure for Lukaku.

as for what we're getting, I have no issues with most of them but 3 of those points are very questionable. Firstly, I wouldn't class him as young seeing as he's 27 and fullbacks tend to drop off quite early, particularly ones that rely so heavily on pace as walker does.

Secondly, when has he ever played DM? there's nothing in his game that suggests he could play there either, lacks the technical skill, positional sense, brains and composure to play there and under utilises his main asset which is his pace. I'll put money on him never ever playing in that position for us.

And the final point, does he really weaken them that much? If he did they simply wouldn't sell him. They obviously prefer Trippier (as do i personally) and feel he's the better bet going forward, so losing a replacement right back isn't weakening the squad all that much, particularly when you're getting £55 million + for him in a time when money might be tight for them with the new stadium to pay for.

Well the rag/spur contingent on twitter are out in full force slagging Walker off as not as good as trippier and comparing the £50m fee to various countries GDP's, typical

I thought it was £50M + add ones ?

Brilliant news.

The only thing I'm scared of is the piss-taking from fans of other teams and the media about being ripped off! I honestly don't know how I coped with the banter surrounding the Stones transfer, I don't think my heart could take it again!

They're usually so fair handed with us but with this I think they won't play nice.

Didn't he get most assists as a fullback in the prem last year? I think he's overpriced but if lukaku is 75m and siguurdson is 40m and Keane is 30m then he's probably priced correctly in this market.

He got 6 assists in the league, which isn't bad. But then Trippier got 5 having played 2200 fewer minutes. In fact, since Trippier joined Spurs he has the same amount of league goals and just 3 less assists, despite playing 5000 fewer minutes.
