Lack of excitement for the World Cup?

I'm quite looking forward to it if only to keep me off the transfer thread.
Won't be long to wait for City once it's over.
I'll keep an eye out for our players, hope Silva has a stormer.

These have gone down well on Merseyside

I think we are in the era where club football rules.

After the World Cup people will go back to moaning about how club football and the Champion's League is bigger now. Yet during the World Cup and Euro's we are brainwashed into thinking the World Cup and the Euro's are the pinnacle where if you ask most of the players honesty they would say it is club football.

2006 is when I started getting excited for them haha. First one Australia had been involved in since I was born. Don't take it for granted, you never know if this could be the last one your national team makes for a while.

True.

It's not beyond the bounds of possibility that in a few years time England will have to be selecting players from The Championship, and it is quite conceivable, in my mind at least, that we will struggle to qualify for world cup finals.

There are so few English players being given their chance in the Premier League these days, it doesn't bode well for the future of the national team.

The same can be said for English managers as well.

All the millions of pounds that have been pumped into the academies over the years hasn't produced very much of real quality, which begs the question 'what's going wrong?'

Quite a lot, when you think about it.

Haha. We're finally getting some technically good players though, we'll be fine. I'd rather have one Barkley than 10 Nolans.

I'm excited for the world cup, why wouldn't you be? Loads of great sides, great kick off times considering it's halfway round the world, it's going to be good.

I didn't say I wasn't looking forward to the World Cup. It is a festival of football that is usually a good watch, and some of the best games I have seen in my life have occured in the finals.

I don't share your view, though, that England will be fine.

It's just my opinion, but unless young, talented English players get their chance, the England team will suffer in the coming years.

How many truly great English players are plying their trade in the Premier League at the moment?

I don't think there are any. The odd one may do a decent job at times for their clubs, but on the international stage, they are short of the standards required to make any sort of impact.

The number of English players in the top flight is falling year on year.

I don't know why we have such a dearth of talent at the moment, but I can see the day, in the not too distant future, when the England manager is filling his squad with players from The Championship, and if that is the case, we can kiss goodbye to world cup qualification.

I'll enjoy the World Cup as I always do, but I don't expect England to be in the finals in the future.

I hope I'm wrong, but I just can't see any other outcome unless things improve substantially.

I'm excited to see the World Cup, not too fussed about England. Been hard to follow England since 2004 with me, I'm not sure if it's an age thing or not. Just think England team has been de-vaulued in recent years through player attitudes and excessive caps being awarded.

sorry cant spend each week singing anti rooney and gerrard songs then switch to cheering them on..dosnt sit right for me!
strange thing is if he drops the old guard and plays the so called unknowns i think england could well be the suprise pakage like a championship club having a good first seson before everyone else realises they are in fact shit.

I can't wait for it to start, love world cup year and with a lot of our players going it's an added extra. I've just been flicking through the planner on tv and it's great to see FIFA world cup in the listings.
Bring it on.
