It's Soriano's 'baby', something he's wanted to do for about a decade and City has given him the opportunity.ElanJo said:Our ownership of other clubs has little to do with us somehow avoiding FFP. Pretty sure it's a growth strategy developed by Soriano before he joined City.
We don't even need to avoid FFP, and the long term plan was never to spend large amounts of money on loads of players anyway.

Actually, the reasons it didn't happen with Barcelona is because after the analysis, they thought it wasn't commercially viable. They looked at rolling out a Barcelona franchise in Miami, but didn't think they'd ever get a return on the investment. It's in his book.
Garry Cook actually pitched the idea of rolling out the City brand to other clubs around the world to Sheikh Mansour just before he bought the club. Ferran has obviously been instrumental in making these deals happen, but the concept was definitely explored by the club long before Ferran came onboard.

And to some on here you would think Gary Cook was the devil himself.
If nothing else Cook had 'vision'. He was widely ridiculed for his vision in the early days as it was so ambitious it was absurd. Not to many of our rivals are laughing now...
