Lampard To City On Loan

Just saw the interview with him on the club website - thought he came across really, really well. I can see him being a great addition to the club in the course of the next six months, a proper pro.

the best thing about this is on FIFA 15. Keep him on the bench and then when you play against chelsea you can unveil him haha

Our ownership of other clubs has little to do with us somehow avoiding FFP. Pretty sure it's a growth strategy developed by Soriano before he joined City.
We don't even need to avoid FFP, and the long term plan was never to spend large amounts of money on loads of players anyway.
This. There was an interview with Soriano where he said he proposed the plans for this global group, owning several clubs to Barcelona. But for various reasons it never happened. It's Soriano's 'baby', something he's wanted to do for about a decade and City has given him the opportunity.

Actually, the reasons it didn't happen with Barcelona is because after the analysis, they thought it wasn't commercially viable. They looked at rolling out a Barcelona franchise in Miami, but didn't think they'd ever get a return on the investment. It's in his book.

Garry Cook actually pitched the idea of rolling out the City brand to other clubs around the world to Sheikh Mansour just before he bought the club. Ferran has obviously been instrumental in making these deals happen, but the concept was definitely explored by the club long before Ferran came onboard.

And to some on here you would think Gary Cook was the devil himself.
If nothing else Cook had 'vision'. He was widely ridiculed for his vision in the early days as it was so ambitious it was absurd. Not to many of our rivals are laughing now...

Don't think he was ridiculed for his vision so much.

Just his inability to see that big mouth shaped hole his foot was regularly heading towards.

I honestly don't see why anyone is thinking this is in any way dodgy. If anything, we're doing NYCFC a favour by letting him train with us, we don't have any need for him and didn't show any desire to have him. He's past it and nowhere near the level of our other midfielders and I'm sure we'd have been more than happy for him to go to Melbourne instead, but clearly he didn't want to, so we agreed to take him. I'd be surprised if he plays any significant amount of football for us and quite frankly hope he doesn't, as he's not good enough. It seems to me that we are paying the wages of someone who we don't really want, all to facilitate his move to NYC.

Totally agree mate. Unfortunately it's the soundbite culture we live in. People hear Garry Cook induct Rosler in to the "Manchester United hall of fame" and instantly think he's an absolute idiot and must be incompetent at his job.

If you actually speak to the people who worked for him, and realise his vision and what he achieved for the club, you realise that the unfortunate sound bites don't define him.

Always been a big fan of Lampard, my favourite of "that" group of players, as I think of them, English national players in that generation. Will be pleased to see him play for us, if only for some sentimental reasons.
