Lancashire CCC

Chilton's just gone - 94/4. Christ, we're up against it now - I was just about to post that he and Keedy had done well so far this morning.

If we can somehow escape with a draw here, it'll almost feel like a win.

Lancs 148 all out lost by an innings and 125 runs back down to earth with an almighty bump.

Joe Mercers way beating Derbyshire is not much to gloat about mate EVERYBODY beats them they are awful.

a) no they don't.
b) i'm not gloating, I'm just happy that we're probably going to win our 2nd game of the season as we rarely win county matches.

Congratulations on your 2nd county championship of the season i was being a little tongue in cheek when i said everybody beats them.

I live in Glossop and i know a few blokes that used travel up to Chesterfield and Derby all the time now none of them go the club from top to bottom is a disgrace its organisation makes Fifa look like a well run club.

Good luck to Surrey for the rest of the year tho!!

Looks like Durham will be the ones to beat this year. Last year they didnt have Onions at all and Stokes has improved a lot. Blackwell and Benkenstein have been in top form all season and if they stay in form then they will win easy.

Lancs just dont have that strike bowler that they have and they dont have a batsman who we can rely on nearly every game. If we win our game in hand we will go back to the top but our squad wont be able to handle the t20, cb40 and cc. Imo we should play the squad players and the 2nd team in the t20 and cb40 and concentrate on the cc. Chapple shouldnt play any 1 day cricket because hes our best player by a long way. Also doesnt help that we have lost Maharoof for a while now because it looks like he will be in the squad for the remaining 2 tests and the odi's.

Also doesnt look like we are brining in an overseas player for the t20s so i dont see much point in bothering with it this year. We dont have a big hitter and Chapple is the only bowler that we could rely on to not go for over 8 an over.

Here we go with "City" mentality. Lancs got beaten in one match and it's all doom and gloom

Never said it was all doom and gloom. I think you'll agree that we dont have a strike bowler, a big hitter or someone at the top of the order who we can rely on.

We have only been successful in the t20 once when we got to finals day. That was when we had Fred and overseas players, we dont have them now. The last time we did well in 40/50 over cricket was when we played Sussex in the final.

Just looking at the squad from 2005 when we got to the t20 semis it was:
Hodge(Big hitter)
Symonds(Big hitter)
Murali(Strike Bowler)

Plus we had Loye and Law at the top of the order who we could rely on. We just dont have that kind of depth and quality now and thats why im saying we should forget about the one day format of the game and concentrate on the county championship.

From what im reading i dont think Nialls alluding to doom and gloom but what he says is in my opinion pretty spot on. We dont have a top quality strike bowler, the squad lacks depth to compete on all levels losing Maharoof for a while is a major blow not realy doom and gloom but a spot of realism. But fingers crossed win the game in hand hang on in there and who knows come September we could even be still in with a chance.
