I was there. Arsenal averaged less than 30000 that season and there was 40000 for that game off memory. Biggest non Wembley London following I’ve ever seen.Arsenal away in 1989 after we came up is a contender. The day we lost 4-0 in the yellow kit. I wasn’t there but a mate was. He went on the special and he said Arsenal fans were gobsmacked at the size of the escort. Seen some estimates of 8000 or more blues. Not sure how accurate that is but I think it was Arsenal’s second highest league crowd that season after the North London derby.
