Last Film You Saw

The ‘Wise Up’ scene gave me the chills.

A truly great moment in film.

That movie makes me think of Raymond Carver. The greatest writer from my home state of Oregon. Robert Altman tried a film of Carver's short stories called Short Cuts. But he didn't get the desperation and every day madness of the characters right. Magnolia was another attempt at that type of narrative. Carver wrote short stories about people glued to the saddest or most desperate of personal tragedies. And I think Anderson hit that mark. The only part I had a problem was with the frogs. But it's still a hell of a great movie.
