Last Film You Saw

Just watching Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy for the first time in a couple of years.

It must have the best British cast of all time?

John Hurt
Gary Oldman
Colin Firth
Toby Jones
Mark Strong
Simon McBurney
Ciaran Hinds
Stephen Graham
Tom Hardy
Benedict Cumberbatch

and Roger Lloyd-Pack aka Trigger!

I can't think of any film that even comes close. There's only 16 named roles in the entire film, and 10 of them are absolute heavyweights.

One of my favourite all time films, books, TV series. There was talk of a follow up, Smiley's People but it never happened.

I thought the film struggled a bit trying to get the story across in a couple of hours compared to the TV series and quite a few people didnt understand it (it pays to have read the book).

All those actors you mentioned were brilliant, Tom Hardy played a very good Ricky Tarr I thought, and Gary Oldman played the part of Smiley very well.
Brilliant cast and the best cold war spy story ever written imo.

This is true, and at first I thought it was a failure of the directing and/or script, but as time passes I think it's just written for le Carré fans. For someone familiar with the story, it's almost flawless and I don't think it could stay true to that and be the perfect film for newcomers.

Same mate i had no idea what it was about really. As soon as i saw Trinity do that kick i was instantly 100% on board. Is that the part that made you sit up and say "WTF" in a good way or another scene?
Went to the pictures to see it with no idea what it was about. Some old dear got up and walked out about 10 minutes in. As soon Neo was doing kung fu with morpheus and propellerheads music kicked in I was blown away. Most impactful film ive seen From a ‘fucking wow’ perspective.

”stop tyring to hit me and hit me!”

Jist watched boiling point on netflix.

The cast are excellent, bur if honest was bored by it, maybe because I am a chef and found bits cliched, and tried to throw in too many plot points.

7/10

this film gets quite a few pelters for being boring, or up its arse, or some such but i thought it was absolutely superb, from start to end (then again i am a le carre fan, which you mention in your follow-up)

I recently watched the TV series on Youtube. Really enjoyed it. Some wonderful British actors. Being about 6 hours in length made it easier to understand. I can understand people who have only seen the film being a bit puzzled.

A Walk In The Woods
2015
Rob Redford
Nick Nolte
Enjoyed this, its based on the book by Bill Bryson. He walks the Appalachian Trail.
Quite funny and interesting film.

RR must stop dying his hair. :)

7/10
