Last Film You Saw

I'm working through a long long list that involves watching a decent amount of shite unfortunately. Some of the better ones I've seen this week:

Homefront (2013) - 6/10
Jason Statham is a former undercover cop who's trying to move on with his life but his past catches up with him. Decent action film, the sort of film he can usually do in his sleep.

Secret in Their Eyes (2015) - 6/10
Based on an Argentinian Oscar winning film (which I believe is also based on an Argentinian novel) I haven't seen the original which is supposed to be very good. This is an interesting murder-thriller but fairly predictable and the pacing is a bit of a mess. Nicole Kidman and Julia Roberts were underused.

Life of Brian (1979) - 6/10
Finally got around to this. Probably going to get panned for this but I thought it was good not great. Some good jokes and decent foresight but I expected more based on how much everybody loves it.

It's all about opinions mate but for me it's the funniest film ever made :-)

Moggy I can't bring myself to like this, as it really traumatized me as a kid. The day after it was on, the bleeding headmaster made us watch it again at assembly.

Nearly 40 years old still fking grim as hell. There wa an American TV movie The Day After which apparently really shit up Reagan and made him determined to sign arms reduction treaties. It's overblown and lacks the immediacy of Threads.

I think this and the Raymond Briggs animation When the Wind Blows are as powerful and eloquent anti war statements as anything a politician would ever say. Hard to really explain to people these days just how real the threat of nuclear war was back then. I mean there'd be items on nw tonight of some random bloke in Cumbria building his very own fallout shelter FFS! Or the video to Dancing with tears in my eyes?

Mind you October 1962 gave it a run for it's money and we should be grateful to JFK that the world didn't end then. 13 days is a brilliant film on the subject with Kevin Costner.

Any how, I'm off to fight for dwindling resources in a post apocalyptic landscape, or at least I will be when I venture to Denton Lidl tomorrow!
Have to agree with every word as a kid it was awful too watch, The Day After is not as good but I can see why Reagan did what he did, anyone who thinks using these is a good idea is actually nuts and should be nowhere near the button.

Father stu, a true story with mark whalberg, a bit of a lad who ends up being a Catholic priest. It's ok but a bit slow.
73/108

Not the last film I’ve watched but the last one I recommended. ‘Booksmart’, unexpectedly funny film about two hardworking girls about to graduate high school. The two main characters give a cracking performance.

Coherence (2013)

: Amazon Prime

Plot: Eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of events due to a malevolent influence of a passing comet.

Without giving too much away, if you like sci-fi thrillers like Timecrimes (2007), Triangle (2009) & Predestination (2014), with themes of dopplegangers, multiverse, time-bending mindf*cks, murder & mayhem, then this lo-fi budget film is right up your street, get it watched!

Score: 8/10

Trivia: The directors didn't give the actors any scripts or tell them what events were about to unfold in the movie so that they could film their genuine reactions as they ratchet up the tension.
Half an hour into Coherence. Very good so far. I'm hooked

Appaloosa (2008) - 6/10

Decent-ish western starring Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen as they attempt to clean up the town of the film's name. The filming location was spot on, it looked like Harris had really thought about the details. It's a good film for the first 75-80% of it but they rushed the ending.
