Last Film You Saw

Just watched Tar. I'll never ever think about watching that film again. It wasn't a bad film. The first hour and 20 was promising. I found the discussion about interpretation of music interesting.

However, if you can explain the final 15/20 mins of that film to me I'd appreciate it. The stakes were so low. Spoilers

Blanchett was good.

The fall from Grace of someone who has everything, yet may have used her position (in a strictly enforced hierarchical structure) to exploit others in ways that are no longer deemed palpable. Indeed, the one person who seemed so outside of that strict system was the one that teased and tormented her the most, even though she had everything she needed at home.

Genius undercut by desire, which whilst real and true, is currently deemed exploitive and passé in polite society. One could go down the “woke” rabbit hole in discussing it, but it only creates political fissures.

Tried a bit too hard to make it a “movie,” and Serkis was like a comic book character!

Oh, for the good old days of Idris and Ruth plotting the destruction of local gangsters and psychos!!
Ruined my memories of a superb character / series

Too many WTF moments like the end with the divers... Not sure about you but I always go to the barren snowy landscapes in full diving gear by helicopter

Wrath of Man....you know what you're getting with Statham, but I find him very pleasing to look at.

The Batman

Better than I thought it might be, but generally too long. Bale's double act is decent, I felt his compassion was just about real enough. Paul Dano sells his big scene beautifully. All he has to do is employ the mannerisms of middle aged women, and you're all losing your mind. Car chase could have been better. I didn't like Jeffrey Wright, almost Hugo Weaving levels of portentious scenery chewing going on there. Not fussed about Gollum man either. He was alreet, but it's a sell for him to be a butler.

It was pretty handsomely shot tho, and I felt the story held together enough to make the beats towards the end count. Even if it failed the 'show, don't tell' test at the big moment... I'll just about give it that, 'everyone needs to feel someone is looking out for them' is a strong enough message to warrant a voiceover. However, I simply can't fake enough nonplussedness towards the mindlessly dull treatment of the moments where
catgirl and batperson save each other from certain death, especially as they came so close together.
